Giving back to our community is at the heart of those at Waller, Todd and Sadler. We were excited to purchase all the gifts from Santa for 15 children staying in emergency shelter at the Housing Resource Center this holiday season. We hope they wake up Christmas morning with big smiles on their faces and experience the wonder of the season.

There was a lot to cheer about as Williamsburg James City County Public Schools dedicated their newest facility, James Blair Middle School on Oct 3, 2018. Teachers and students are excited about all the opportunities to learn in the 21st Century spaces that this new school provides. Each grade is housed on its own floor with 6 classrooms and a Science Lab that open upon a central Collaboration Hub with moveable glass walls and moveable markerboard partitions between classrooms. This arrangement provides opportunities for project based learning, collaboration and student directed learning. We can’t wait to see how these students engage and interact in this dynamic environment!

Camp Allen Elementary School Hard Hat Tour

The construction for Camp Allen Elementar School, in Norfolk, Virginia is well underway. WTS is proud to be a part of this important project. Jason Miller, AIA assisted in the tour explaining the factors influencing the design on August 30, 2018.

The Camp Allen Elementary School consists of the construction of a new Pk-5 age group instructional facility with a 571 student capacity. The facility will be designed under the LEED for Schools rating system incorporating a traditional Pk-5 learning environment. The building is sited on 15.1 acres along Monrovia Street, bounded by Elementary Drive to the north east and residential neighborhoods to the south and south west. The new site work provides 91 spaces for visitor and staff parking. A drop-off area at the main entry of the building can accommodate 20 cars while a separate bus loop will allow for 7 buses. Additionally provided are a multi-purpose play field, grade specific fitness development areas, an outdoor classroom/public area, and multi-purpose hard surface play areas.

Renovation of Reed and Curie Halls at Radford University is well underway. Reed and Curie Halls are connected academic buildings that primarily house the university’s Artis College of Science and Technology. Reed Hall was built in 1939 and Curie Hall was built in 1971. The 94,840SF project will provide modern facilities for several of the university’s science departments, laboratory spaces for the geospatial science, biology, chemistry, geology and physics departments, as wells as a new cybersecurity training and education lab. The project is a collaboration between Waller Todd & Sadler Architects and CANNONDESIGN.

Jeff Pierce, an architect at Waller, Todd & Sadler, played movie star for a day, hosting a video used for the One Hand to Another summer camps. Waller, Todd & Sadler is part of The ViBe district in Virginia Beach. The ViBe nonprofit collaborated with Virginia MOCA museum to teach 1,000 local at-risk students about the creative field of architecture through the lens of a sea level rise and community building challenge at the From One Hand To Another summer camps. The video for the student art challenge was created with the help of our ViBe district members Sugar Skull Creative, Chris Lane Video, Virginia MOCA and Waller, Todd & Sadler Architects. If you look closely, you’ll see some of our other Waller, Todd & Sadler staff as extras. Waller, Todd & Sadler is pleased to continue our support of local organizations and our ViBe neighbors.

Muse Hall is the largest residence hall at Radford University that houses approximately 950 students yearly. Epoxy terrazzo combined with wall decor and common areas for studying and gathering make this an exceptional place to be.

For this project, Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo installed 3,070 square feet of epoxy terrazzo. The highlight of this project is the walkway found in the center of the building. The walkway features custom precast terrazzo pieces, ramps located on each side of the walkway with tread and riser stairs going towards the common room area.
