The right place, the right time, and ready to do the right thing.
While on a run over the Jordan Bridge in Portsmouth earlier this year, Airman Apprentice Melendez-Zlaya and Airman Quiroz saw a man pull his car over, climb out, and walk to the edge of the 145-foot tall bridge. As the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) Sailors ran closer, they quickly assessed the situation and saw that he was prepared to jump. Melendez-Zlaya immediately began a conversation with the gentleman, drawing him away from the edge. This created a distraction and afforded Quiroz an opportunity to safely grab the man from behind and pull him to safety. He was then able to receive the appropriate level of care and assistance he needed. He is alive today, thanks to these two Sailors.
Their actions on that day demonstrated our Navy’s signature behaviors, their commitment through their actions, and a strong concern for the people around them. They are a shining example of #USNavy core values.
CONGRATS TO TEU TWO'S NEWEST SELECTEES!

Today we take time out to say THANK YOU to those who have served! To that Sailor, that Marine, that Soldier, that Airman...We stand the watch!
BREAKING: Navy installations in Hampton Roads were authorized today to move to Health Protection Condition Level (HPCON) Bravo after meeting Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) conditions-based guidance for the changing of HPCON.
The change means military personnel in Hampton Roads will adhere to state and local guidance regarding off-base activities.
Installations in the region had been in HPCON Charlie, a more restrictive level, since March.
Under the new guidance, military personnel can leave their homes for non-essential tasks, but are still expected to exercise sound judgment, maintain strict adherence to established health protection measures and take personal responsibility to ensure the health and safety of themselves and those around them.
The decision to move to HPCON Bravo was made because the health conditions in the area met OSD requirements. Specifically, health statistics showed a downward trajectory of COVID-19 cases and influenza-like illnesses for more than 14 days, local medical facilities demonstrated the capacity to treat all patients without crisis care, and COVID-19 testing programs are in place for at-risk healthcare workers and those exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
“Protecting our workforce is our top priority. The conditions in Hampton Roads have improved enough to allow our personnel to move a little more freely throughout the community,” said Rear Adm. Charles Rock, Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic. “But our force must remain vigilant. It is imperative that everyone continues to frequently wash their hands and avoid high-risk activities such as going to a bar or attending a large music concert.”
In HPCON Bravo, military personnel are required to follow the guidance of their commanding officers, and any guidance provided by region or installation commanders. If local conditions worsen, HPCON levels can increase.
ICYMI: Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training and Evaluation Unit 2 (EODTEU 2) conducted a change-of-command, welcoming its newest CO, Cmdr. Alley, and bid farewell to Cmdr. Smith.
