VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Sunday, March 18th starting around 7am.

Every year our neighborhood sponsors a water station at the front entrance. We need all the volunteers we can get to help set-up and pass out water/ Gatorade and cheer on the thousands of runners. The following is a link to our event sign-up for the Shamrock Marathon Water Station.

https://haku.ly/3908a4

When registering, you just need to select Full Marathon Water Stop #11 & #12. And then sign up to join a team and join: Birdneck Lake Neighborhood Cheer Station

Volunteers will also get an awesome T-shirtu, select your size in the link above.

Lastly, this is an event that usually donates back to our Civic League, those funds will be used to help buy new pool furniture!

A Virginia Beach golf course could become a manufacturing facility, and some neighbors have concerns

Looks like the city will be reviewing this tomorrow at the city council meeting. Being it is right up the street, thought I would share. Residents are permitted to speak if this is something you are interested in you can call the city clerk and sign up.

The new business would employ more than 1,000 workers with average salaries of $70,000.

Important Message From the VBFD:

The Virginia Beach Fire Department has responded to a number of brush fires over the last two weeks. There were several reported in the area of South Birdneck Road, General Booth Blvd. and around Owl’s Creek just last Sunday. Sadly, this trend is likely to continue. The upcoming months will show a surge in the number of "brush fires" which are actually "wildland fires". This area, believe it or not, is actually still considered to be in drought conditions. The coming months will have higher winds and lower humidity....all recipes for wildland fires. Refrain from outdoor burns during windy days and be sure to follow city / state codes if you are engaged in any type of outdoor burning. If you are camping in an area that does allow camp fires, make sure your fire is contained in an area that will prevent it from spreading. Refrain from using kindling materials like dry leaves that create a lot of flying sparks. Make sure your camp fire is properly extinguished and never leave a fire unattended.

If you are a smoker, do not carelessly discard cigarette butts. Make sure your cigarette is completely out and discard butts in a noncombustible container. Don’t thorw lit cigarettes out of a car window. Many brush fires are started this way.

School Snow Make Up Days Announced!

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) will use Feb. 20 and March 8 to make up the instructional time lost during Winter Storm Helena. Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence has decided to waive the remaining snow day for students by using time built in to the 181-day school calendar.

The makeup plan includes:

Feb. 20 (Presidents’ Day) will make up time lost Jan. 9
March 8 (originally designated as a professional learning day for staff) will be a makeup day for Jan. 10
Jan. 11 will not be made up by students or 12-month employees who worked Jan. 11; missed time for all other employees will be made up through a flexible schedule or use of leave.
Should additional days be missed due to inclement weather, time will be made up by adding minutes to the school day and/or other means as designated by the Superintendent. State law requires that school divisions provide a minimum of 180 days or 990 hours of instruction each school year.

“We have experienced extraordinary weather events this school year,” Spence said. “From flooding and the hurricane in the fall to our most recent winter storm, the impact on our community has been almost without precedent. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our parents and staff as we adjust the schedule to comply with State law.”

As a reminder, Jan. 30 was previously announced as a makeup day for instructional time lost during September’s floods. The 2016-2017 school calendar has been updated to include all makeup days and is available on www.vbschools.com.

Our cat is missing! Please call if you see him, 757-232-7504! We love at 1156 Treefern! He is the large Maine coon in this pic, the cat on top!
I lost my little black kitten on Birdneck Lake Drive tonight (February 20). She is spayed and had all shots. She is a former ferrel kitten, but will not bite or hiss. If you find her please message me.
