The outdoors can sometimes feel like kryptonite, but not for ACVA, thanks to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation 🦸

With the support of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, ACVA has been able to get three Extreme Motus Wheelchairs! These all-terrain wheelchairs break down physical barriers, allowing us to provide our participants with truly inclusive outdoor experiences across any terrain. These will be valuable to all of our programming throughout the year.

Back in April, the Extreme Motus guys themselves, Sam, Ryan, and Adam, came to Virginia Beach to give us an introductory demonstration, and our participants loved them! These wheelchairs are a game-changer in making adventure more accessible, and we are so grateful to have three of them for our participants.

Thank you, Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, for allowing us to reach a new level in our mission with this grant.

“What Belonging Looks Like” 💙✨

That is the title of a special feature in Cape Henry Collegiate’s latest newsletter, highlighting ACVA’s recent classroom visits! Our Program Director, Ashley, alongside our participant, Tyme, and aide, Julia, have been spending time with kingergarden students at Cape Henry to foster meaningful conversations about people with different abilities and the importance of inclusion. True inclusion begins with understanding. By creating open, welcoming spaces for kids to learn and ask questions, we can show young minds that while we may navigate the world differently, people with disabilities share the exact same hopes, interests, humor, and need for connection as everyone else.

A huge thank you to Cape Henry Collegiate for opening their doors to us and helping to teach the next generation what true belonging really looks like!

Celebrating with our parents and caregivers 😌

August is National Wellness Month, a reminder that taking care of ourselves is just as important as taking care of others. Recently, we hosted a special wellness and sound healing experience for some of the wonderful parents and caregivers in our ACVA family. They dedicate so much of their heart and energy to our community every single day, and we wanted to help provide them with a well-deserved opportunity to unwind and recharge themselves.

A heartfelt thank you to Nita with Marrigold Wellness for guiding everyone through such a soothing and restorative experience!
