What do Diet Coke, Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller,’ and the Virginia Beach Library Foundation have in common? We’re all turning 40 this year!

The Virginia Beach Public Library Endowment Foundation was officially incorporated on June 16, 1982. Our name may have changed, but the mission has always remained the same: to raise private, supplemental funding in support of Virginia Beach Public Library so that it has the resources it needs to be the best library system in Hampton Roads! Thanks to the generosity of our library-loving community, we’ve been able to provide VBPL with funding for much-needed technology, literacy programs, and even outreach vehicles!

In honor of our 40th anniversary, please consider making a donation of $40 or more. Your gift will support special programs and resources for VBPL. https://form-renderer-app.donorperfect.io/give/virginia-beach-library-foundation/vblf-40th-anniversary

We love a Summer Reading success story! 😍

Virginia Beach Library Foundation Stellar Service Leads to Happy Ending for Customer and Library

We were saddened to learn of the passing of a VBPL customer last month whose story we featured in July 2020. This gentleman had received such stellar service from the staff at the Bayside Area and Special Services Library that he made a donation in honor of those who assisted him. He also shared why it meant to so much to him, saying in part, "I have always had my books, until I was 'locked out.'... When my reader came home, I really felt like living again."

Library lovers all know too well the importance of books to their own quality of life. You can read his entire story here: https://www.vblibraryfoundation.org/stellar-service-leads-to-happy-ending-for-customer-and-library/

Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.

Our Story

The Virginia Beach Library Foundation is a certified 501c3 public nonprofit that provides a protected vehicle for giving donations to the library system. Donations are used to fund special projects, materials, and programs benefiting the community that the library could not otherwise afford through its annual city operating budget. FAQ’s Is the foundation necessary when the library is funded with taxpayer dollars? While the city has been and is most supportive, public funding is not sufficient to enable the library to keep pace with the needs and demands of a 21st century library. Support for new programs, technology upgrades, expanding collections, and building an endowment will ensure the future of the library system.
