Today's tour is on board the Landing Craft, Mechanized platform.

ACU 2 is a unique and dynamic naval unit with almost 325 officers, chiefs and crew operating 16 Utility Landing Craft (LCU) vessels, 2 Mechanized Landing Craft (LCM-8) and 4 Utility Boats (UB). ACU 2 craft have operated in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea , supporting virtually every amphibious exercise or contingency operation that occurred in those waters since 1960.

Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, embarked with Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 8 onboard USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group ships, take part in routine sustainment training on the Saudi Arabian islands of Karan and Kurayn. The second round of training on these islands goes through late May. “These islands in the Arabian Gulf provide our Navy-Marine Corps team an ideal setting to prepare for a wide range of operations, while exercising seamless integration with our highly qualified partners,” said Capt. Amphibious Squadron 8

Landing crafts, air cushion, depart the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) to transport Marines and equipment from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Saudi Arabian island of Karan as part of routine joint sustainment training taking part through the end of May.

“This return training on Karan and Kurayn islands allows us to exercise our full mission readiness as a premier crisis-response option for our nation, as we also work alongside our Saudi partners for security and stability in the region,” said Capt.
