‘The MBC is heartbroken by the senseless murder of George Floyd and so many other African Americans whose lives have been cut short due to police brutality. As Dr. King stated, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. Their lives mattered. Black Lives Matter.’

🔵News and Updates🔵

Today, Councilman Aaron Rouse hosted a Small Business Panel Q&A. Councilman Rouse asked questions about the SBA small business loan program, what it entails, what information the SBA will need to process those loans, and what other resources the city can provide small businesses.

Councilman Aaron Rouse, who is a part of the Virginia Beach City Council, had a panel of three individuals:

Taylor Adams, Director, Virginia Beach Economic Development

Erica Small-Sisco, Program Director, ODU Women’s Business Center

Tasha Saunders, ODU Women’s Business Center

Click here to go to the Councilman's page to view the second and first live videos, in that order, to view the Small Business Q&A.

In order to get through these tough times, we have to work together. We have to start thinking out-of-the-box and find innovative ways to press on.

Virginia Beach Economic Development is partnering with the ODU Women’s Business Center to provide no-cost technical assistance to small business owners that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and want to apply for federal relief. These services will be available by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm until June 3.

I will be holding a Small Business Q&A on Facebook Live next Monday at 11am with the people who have put together this program for our city’s business owners - you can submit your questions in the comments below.

Let me be clear, this is only one piece of the puzzle. We will continue to work together to get through this!

Today's meeting has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience.

First, I’d like to thank Pharrell Williams for his love and dedication to the City of Virginia Beach and for creating a week that celebrates our beautiful diversity. Something in The Water festival has become a global-festival and one the signals to the world that Virginia Beach is “open” socially and economically.

Last year around this time, I stood before approximately 800 residents listening to concerns about the festival while trying to ease doubts. As the sole representative from council that night, I was not alone. I was surrounded and supported by a dedicated city staff (Public Works, Parking, Convention Visitors Bureau, Communication office, Permits office and many others) along with our first responders from the Virginia Beach Police Dept, VB Fire Department, VBEMS and VB Volunteer Rescue Squad. Our dedicated staff and public servants in partnership with Pharrell’s Team spent hours upon hours on every detail to promote and bring forth a safe and fun environment and this year will be no different.

I am so proud of the work city staff has done in partnership with this year’s festival organizers.

I am looking forward to answering all your questions again this year and seeing you all soon.
