The Virginia state Board of Elections has certified Democrat Mark R. Herring as the winner of the November 5 election for attorney general. His Republican opponent has 10 days to request a recount.

That's 165 votes out of 2.2 million cast, by the way.

I think some are underestimating the importance of the elections in Virginia today. Post shutdown this will be an indicator to the Republican party that the Tea Party has become a liability and no longer worth the consequences. A sweep by Dems in the 3 biggest races in Virginia will actually empower the moderates of the Republican party and hopefully swing the tactics of the GOP from obstructionism to bipartisanship.
It all starts with getting out to vote though.
