VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (May 26th, 2021) Electronics Technician 1st Class William Boyd, from Manteca, California, assigned to Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit (CBMU) 202, receives the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in Lieu of the Third Award) from Commanding Officer Lt. Cmdr. Brian Wood, for professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as Communications Department Head for Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit Two Zero Two from August 2019 to June 2021. Petty Officer Boyd led a team of six personnel in the maintenance and inventory of 210 pieces of communications gear, phone systems and NMCI assets, ensuring uninterrupted support during eight Command Sustainment Exercises, enhancing command readiness for major combat operations. Additionally, he expertly maintained accountability of $2M of Controlled Cryptographic Items. Petty Officer Boyd’s exceptional professionalism, unrelenting perseverance, and loyal devotion to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
CBMU 202 constructs and maintains Expeditionary Medical Facilities, provides Higher Headquarters camp support, and provides public works, minor construction, embarkation, and disaster response capabilities, during wartime or contingency operations.
