Happy Veterans Day to those that served! Many people don’t get the recognition they deserve. We have several that have served working for our PD. Officer Taliaferro, CPL. McGill, Sgt. Jones, Lt. Moreno, Capt. Oliver, and none other than Chief Mitchell himself! Thank you to all that gave their time and lives for this wonderful country we live in!

Campus affiliates, you have to protect yourselves during this holiday season. We have an open campus. Make sure you aren’t making yourself an easy target. Remove all valuables from sight in your vehicle, take your keys and lock your cars. We are doing our best to make sure we protect this campus, but we need everyone to help us! Ways to Reduce your Risk of Sexual Assault | RAINN | R**e, Abuse and In**st National Network

In response to recent media coverage of sexual assaults and r**es on college campuses, we would like to remind our Campus Community of the rights and responsibilities that are incumbent upon everyone, and especially, upon members of our community. To prevent recurrence, such crimes require notification of police, investigation and prosecution. Secondly, every victim, of this or any other crime, has the right to an investigation of the crime which has been committed against their person, without fear of repercussions. Foremost in our approach is the swift and accurate assessment of reported assaults, leading to prosecution as allowable by law and under the purview of the justice system. We affirm - A crime committed on campus is a crime regardless of locale, and must face the consequences as determined by law. We uphold the rights of victims to not be re-victimized and stand ready to investigate with compassion and fairness.
Our approach is for fairness and equality to all, therefore, following law enforcement investigative procedures, a full investigation ensues to prevent unjust accusations toward innocent persons while affirming and aggressively prosecuting verified cases of sexual assault and r**e.

Chief C. A. Mitchell, Sr. Chief of Police stated:
“There are those in our community that would and will take advantage of the kindness and heart of our young women. Sexual advances, assault and r**e are a violation of our faith, and a crime against our constitution and legal code in any form. Those found guilty of compromising our standards of mutual honor and respect will be subjected to the fullest weight of criminal law and suffer the consequence of their actions.
To any victim: we stand ready to defend your freedom to enjoy an environment free of any harassment and /or assault. Our duty is to you!” CPD

We stand ready to serve you with compassion and integrity, uncompromising commitment to excellence and transparency. In return we ask that you familiarize yourself with your rights and obligations by law, and exercise caution in social occasions, avoiding practices that may make you vulnerable to a predator, or to a false accusation. Attend social events with a friend, avoid substances that will impair your judgment, be aware of your surroundings, exercise self-restraint and good judgment in interpersonal relationships. While you can never completely protect yourself from sexual assault, there are some things you can do to help reduce your risk of being assaulted.
