Virginia Beach City Government What an extraordinary day of triumph, literacy, and contagious joy! Our local celebration of Read Across America Day unfolded today across 90 participating sites. With great pride, we distributed over 8,031 books, to enrich the lives of children throughout our beloved community.
Much like the message resonating from the pages of our selected Read Across America Day book, "Change Sings," today's events underscored the remarkable impact we can achieve when we unite with a shared commitment to community well-being. We've witnessed firsthand the profound power of collaboration and the transformative effects it brings.

We know many of you are just starting a new year of learning but we want to CONGRATULATE our Summer START families for GRADUATING!! These families spent 10 weeks engaging in ways they can support their child's healthy development. They increased shared book reading by 16 minutes each day, experienced 37 percentile growth in adult words children were exposed to, and increased back and forth conversational turns by 26 percentile.
