The Marine Rescue Team is a fully mobile rapid deployment Water Rescue Team. Kennedy Jr. Piper Saratoga off the east coast on July 1999.

Commanded by Captain David Wheeler, the Marine Rescue Team was established in August 1999, to administer a program which provides for the immediate response and timely arrival of a specially trained and equipped Dive Team, to respond to requests for rescues involving Drownings, Near-Drownings or Water Related Rescues. In addition, they apply special procedures and search techniques for locating an

d removing patients from hazards, and provide additional assistance to BLS and ALS personnel when necessary according to medical and operational protocol. As a member of the Tidewater Regional Underwater Search and Rescue Team, this team continues to excel resulting in requests by regional, state and national organizations for assistance. Just to name a few such requests as the Flight TWA 800 crash on July 1996 and the search for John F.

You’ve seen us on the Atlantic, in Broad Bay, and around the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel - did you know we also patrol and respond to calls on the Virginia Beach portion of the Intracoastal Waterway! Rescue Boat 6, stationed at Creeds, is our go-to ICW boat. Say hi next time you see us out there!

This morning we join our sister stations Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad and Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad in mourning the loss of Shannon Britt, a family member and former member of Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad and Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad. The members of the Marine Rescue Team send their condolences to Paramedic Ed Britt, Logan, and the rest of their family. Shannon was a dear friend to the entire VB Rescue community.

A throwback Thursday to the NAS Oceana Air Show in September! MRT’s own Billy was there and met up with Tonya and Holly from Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation as well as Todd and Christine from Junior Rescue Squad of Virginia Beach. The views were great ✈️ and the company even better!

Dreaming of the warmer weather from…yesterday? Us too! The VB EMS Marine Rescue Team is active all year and responds to calls in all seasons🛟, even when temps drop 🥶 We definitely love those warm sunsets out on the water though 🌅 😎

Last weekend, in between planning costumes, MRT members conducted a 4 hour RADAR and SAR patterns training. 2 hours of classroom time and 2 hours on the water, applying the concepts hands on. We love spending a sunny ☀️ , 80 degree day learning so we are prepared when the calls come! 🌊

Rescue boat 4 Beach Launch

Marine Rescue Team practices launching RB4 from the Beach to better serve the VB area. We still stand at the ready to respond to all water rescues even during this pandemic.

Member of the Martine Rescue team along with the members of the Chesapeake Police department Dive team and the VWU swim team participated in a 30 minute tread water awareness for International Water Safety tread-a-thon.
