Great to be with neighbors at the Sandbridge Beach Civic League candidate forum last night. I know we ran short on time for taking questions from the audience last night but if you had a question and want to post it below in the comments ⤵️, I'll try to respond as quickly as I'm able.

I'm really looking forward to serving Va Beach communities and bringing my lifelong public service experience and expertise in public schools to bear on key decisions and issues that we’ll be facing in the next 4 years—topics like hiring and retaining the very best teachers and preventing them from burning out and leaving the profession…topics like AI and technology use in the classroom demand a thoughtful approach rather than the extremes of either an outright ban on technology or embracing the latest and greatest tech with no boundaries. Tackling hard policies like this bring to the forefront my experience as a classroom teacher, my knowledge and experience in IT, and an understanding of how to write effective School Board policy… so let's get to work. I humbly ask for your support and would be grateful for your vote this fall.

Hey -- today was a nice day -- a little overcase -- but just enough to keep the temps down... it was so great to meet voters from District 2 out at EARLY VOTING.

Early voting will be available every Monday - Friday until
October 31st from 9am - 5pm
at 500 Studio Drive.

Great to be out meeting our voters — the best opportunities to chat right before they make their choices and vote.

I’m so proud to be endorsed by teachers and to be the only candidate for School Board in District 2 who can speak from the experience of a 30-year career in public schools.

I look forward to serving the great people of district 2 for the next four years!

I hear the same message alot... and it's why I keep talking about our School Board needing more members who have experience in public schools and education... without that experience, it's much harder to draft meaningful policy that is likely to be successful when it hits the classrooms because the lack of understanding of all of the parts that have to function well together to yield the results we want with our students. I hope this will be an important issue to voters this fall.

If experience is important when considering who you'll support and vote for this fall, I encourage you to check out our campaign. My 30+ years of experience in public schools I believe means that when these issues come before the Board, I can best be trusted to know where to seek solutions that will directly address our concerns and goals for the future.

What a great day for food, friends, music all right next to the sea and sand of Sandbridge. Great event at Little island Park - Sandbridge Beach for the 2026 Pig Pickin' benefitting the Sandbridge Volunteer Rescue Squad! Live music was rockin' -- food was great and meeting our fellow neighbors in District 2 is always worth the time and a fun way to spend an afternoon -- thank you to my teacher friends who stepped up and gave me the high five and said I had their support! Always have the teachers' backs...always, having been there myself.

I can't wait to bring that experience to the Board this fall. If experience is the key to success (which I believe it is in almost any endeavor), I would gratefully ask for your vote this fall. I am the only candidate on the ballot with 30+ years in public schools and I will support our teachers and make sure we get the student achievement and outcomes we're looking for.

I know you know how this goes...

You're scrolling through your phone working or your computer maybe not even looking for anything in particular and suddenly you land on a bunch of photos from years ago. All at once the nostalgia hits and you remember these sweet, happy little moments you'd almost forgotten you had.

That happened to me this morning. I stumbled upon on a stash of pictures from when our kids were still small enough to carry on a hip and I put together the collage you see here.

Why do I bring this up? Because I started getting a little emotional as I browsed these photos remembering what it felt like so long ago but yet also just a minute ago...

Raising kids is a strange kind of pressure that you really only "get" when you're a parent. You're making decisions every single day about school, about who they spend time with, about the values you hope stick. And you rarely know in the moment whether you're getting it right. All you can really do is show up, pay attention, and try your best, again and again, for all those formative years.

And then, almost without warning, they're grown. Our son graduated from Radford University last year. Our daughter graduated from the University of Alabama back in 2023 and is a paramedic now, working toward what's next. The kids in these photos are adults, out there building their own lives.

What we hoped for them the whole time was simple: that they'd leave home with the tools and the mindset to find a life that makes them happy, whether that's with a partner or on their own, surrounded by people, family, friends, and the teachers, coaches, and neighbors along the way, who show up for kids the way we try to show up for our own.

In the end, that's also what our schools and teachers are trying to build, too. Not just test scores. Kids ready for whatever their life turns out to be.

Here's to all of their next great chapters!! And to you, the parents working so hard to raise your children to have those opportunities in their futures and become wonderful humans raising our next, next generation!! It's why I love education -- it's the embodiment of building our future. Thank you for reading this.

Seeing this in my feed today made me stop and remind myself (and now, all of you) how important the fine arts are in our education system and I look forward to seeing more of them once elected this fall. Love to see success and great things come to our grads!

I hope everyone enjoyed the end of summer, a local cookout, and of course a Happy Labor Day weekend.

Today was a culmination of a weekend celebrating the people who show up and do the work every single day so the rest of us can build our lives. Teachers grading papers after their own kids go to bed. Parents working two jobs to keep things together. Sailors and Marines stationed away from home so their families here can thrive. Small business owners who open the doors every morning no matter what.

I’m so thankful to have spent my 30-year career in public education and I've never met a colleague or teacher who clocked out mentally when the last period ended. That kind of work, the kind that shows up in a kid's life for years after the school year ends, deserves real support. Not just applause once a year, but the tools, respect, and trust to do the job well.

District 2 is full of people who work hard for their families and their community. That's what makes this place worth serving.
