At tonight’s Third Precinct Citizen's Advisory Committee Meeting, Virginia Beach Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Sara Chandler explained the process of prosecution, the different laws and changes enacted by the General Assembly.

Third Precinct Captain Carlos Sanyer provided updates and answered questions about recent incidents.

Aragona Village Civic League First Vice-President Dawn Halvorsen previewed plans for the Independence Day Parade and Party, as well as the National Night Out at Bayside High School. New President Mike Halvorsen was also in attendance.

City Department Representatives provided updates and answered questions.

The next meeting at Williams Farm Recreation Center (5252 Learning Circle) will be Thursday, September 17th at 6:30 PM.

🚑 Last night at approx. 8:39pm, VBRescue - Chesapeake Beach crews responded alongside the Virginia Beach Fire Department, Virginia Beach Police Department, Virginia Beach EMS, and our sister squads to a working townhouse fire in the Aeries on the Bay community.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions involving multiple three-story townhomes. While fire crews worked aggressively to contain the fire, EMS personnel were on scene providing medical support to both residents and emergency responders throughout the incident.

In total, four townhouse units were affected, displacing seven residents and several pets. EMS evaluated one civilian for a minor injury and one firefighter for heat exhaustion. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Beyond responding to medical calls, EMS crews play a critical role at fires and other major emergencies by caring for patients, monitoring firefighter health and safety, and ensuring medical resources are immediately available if conditions change.

We're grateful for the teamwork displayed by all agencies involved and wish the affected residents the very best as they begin the recovery process. More information on the incident can be found on VBFD's social media.

We want to give our community a heads‑up: beginning July 1, most Virginia Beach Public Library will be going cashless. We’re upgrading to a fully digital payment model to make payments quicker and easier.

💳 Card payments will be accepted at all branches.
💵 Cash will still be accepted at the Central Library and for Friends of the Library purchases.

We know this is a change, and we’re committed to making it as smooth as possible for everyone. Provisions will be available for library cardholders with small print jobs, and staff are always happy to help you navigate your options.

Effective July 1st, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) will offer one of the highest starting salaries in Hampton Roads for new police officer recruits. Virginia Beach is proud to offer $58,300 for new recruits and up to $61,734 upon Academy graduation.

🙏 Congratulations to our newest leaders! Captains Brian Roland, Michelle Stephenson-White and Bob Donnelly graduated from the Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) course. Originally created for law enforcement, the program teaches leadership principles that can be applied across the public safety spectrum. Virginia Beach Police Department invites EMS representatives to join them, and representatives from Virginia Beach Fire Department, Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office, and Virginia Beach Emergency Communications & Citizen Services in these opportunities.
