MCIS congratulates Gunnery Sergeant Backes on her meritorious promotion to her current rank on 13 April 2026, at the Naval School of Music. The ceremony was conducted by Brigadier General Michael A. Brooks with the aid of Sergeant Major David M. Elliott. This achievement identified her among a distinguished group of approximately the top .1% of Marine Corps Staff Sergeants. This promotion recognizes GySgt Backes' exceptional performance and dedication. Her selection as the 2024 SNCO Marine Musician of the Year and her selection to represent Marine Corps Intelligence School in Training Command’s 2025 Fittest Instructor Competition highlight her outstanding capabilities and commitment, setting her apart from her peers.

Colonel Duane A. Durant retires after over 25 years of dedicated and faithful service following the Change of Command of Marine Corps Intelligence Schools on June 27, 2025.

He is awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service as the Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Intelligence Schools.
