Today was another Tilling and Tending Tuesday at Newtown Elementary. We had a great crowd. Lots of fun. The next one is June 30th. So much got done. Thank you all that came.

Well. Today was bitter sweet. It was our final garden club meeting. Most of the remaining club is third grade. They move on to Bettie F. Williams next year. So most of my club will be new kids next year. I invited the staff to join us for our final meet. Two came out. They were so eager to harvest. Specifically the blackberries, carrots and broccoli. Hopefully I’ll see some at Tilling and Tending Tuesday over the summer.

Today’s school garden harvest. 8.5 pounds of cabbage. The three cabbage heads that went home with Tilling and Tending Tuesday families last night were the size of the one on the right.

We had a wonderful time in the Garden Club yesterday. We had extra help and we got some long outstanding projects started and others ended. Lots of progress made on the courtyard and we didn't disturb the Mama Duck.

Yesterday's garden harvest for the cafeteria was 3 pounds of Romaine lettuce. And it was by the request of the Cafeteria Manager, Ms. Dunston. She specifically asked for lettuce. I love it when a plan comes together.

Yesterday was our first Tilling and Tending Tuesday Family garden event. People took lots of veggies home for their help. It included two large heads of cabbage, two nice heads of broccoli, broccoli leaves, collard greens, celery, green onions, beets, radishes, mint and blackberries. It was also proof that small numbers can make a big impact.

This was yesterday's harvest from our school garden. Eight pounds of cabbage, 1.3 pounds of a variety of radishes. More cabbage to harvest today. I give them the whole cabbage plant minus the roots because it is all edible. All to the cafeteria.

Its that time of the year again. I know I hear a lot about how schools should have gardens. We have one. We need help, especially over the summer. We host a Tilling and Tending Family Garden Time every other Tuesday from 5-6PM. If you come out and help maintain the garden, you get some free veggies for your help.. 🚀✨ Newtown blasted off with an out-of-this-world SOL Pep Rally last Friday! Our Space Theme Pep Rally was all about getting our 3rd graders excited, motivated, and ready to ACE their SOL tests! 🌟

Students were cheered on by the Bayside Cheerleaders, heard encouraging words from special guests, enjoyed videos, laughed at SOL jokes from our 3rd graders, and were entertained by our amazing 3rd Grade Step Team.

Our 3rd grade teachers definitely showed out with an awesome performance, and the Staff + Student Dance-Off was absolutely LIT! 🔥

A special shoutout to our principal for being a true team player for dressing up and getting on stage to dance with our students! 💙 We had an amazing time building excitement and confidence for our students as they get ready to shine!
