We had a great time with great weather for the Garden Chefs Club yesterday. We weeded, transplanted, built a bench, filled bird feeders and worked on framing up another section of beds.
UPDATE: Can't forget our Cafeteria Manager. She helped kids pick peppers and tomatoes to eat with the school lunches today.

Ms. Hogan wants to get some water color supplies for her art classes. There are two ways you can help, one does not cost you anything but the time to vote. You can vote every day. The goal is 1200 votes. New accounts on the site get 4 votes. Can me move like light speed and get her to 1200 votes. I think we can. Share out the link on all your social media platforms please. If she gets enough votes Sonic will fund the project. You can also donate if you wish. https://bit.ly/WatercolorExploration

We welcomed families and our new students on Thursday with our Meet and Greet to give students and family a chance to meet their teacher and other school staff. Only limited numbers could be allowed in the building so we set up out front with tables for free book bags and school supplies as well as free books free veggies and good music. Here is a peak at our staff. It was AWESOME to see all the kids and families again.

Good Morning Everyone. Many of you know we have a nice school garden. Due to the pandemic mitigation measures you've only been able to see part of it. There is another garden in the interior courtyard. Our Garden Club meets every Thursday after school and we hold Thirsty Thursday every other Thursday.. We could use some additional help with the garden work. If you are interested please read the attached flyer. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BdHfkAFishtEw7L89yC9Slyo_6YD-WfD/view?usp=sharing

Newtown's Garden Chefs Club met yesterday after school and we actually got a good deal accomplished before the rain started. We opened about a dozen boxes of items from DonorsChoose. This included chair covers, bird feed, watering cans, thermometers, bird houses, a bee house, rain gauges, measuring tapes and more. Ms. Buhner and Elai went straight to mounting the thermometers and rain gauges, Mickey and Marquez worked on creatively painting our new trash cans made from donated barrels, others harvested seeds, weeded, and yes watered. Some of our plants are up under the roof overhang and never get rained on.

The garden is coming along nice. The broccoli is looking fabulous. The tomato framing is in place. The beets and swiss chards, peas, onions and radishes are all coming up as well as the black corn. The apple trees are budding out too. The building manager has the small shed strapped to the wall now so no more blowing over in the wind.

Yesterday was our first Garden Chefs Club meeting this year and our first Thirsty Thursday for the season. It was a blast. We planted, weeded, filled milk cartons with dirt and even worked on the new fence. Thank you to everyone that came out.

During a conference I attended in December I won an iRover mobile stand for an Interactive Panel. I have launched a project up on DonorsChoose to get Newtown an Interactive Panel for this stand. This will be awesome for Newtown and for the students. Check out the link. Share out to family and friends and on your social media please. I am extremely disappointed on how Newtown Elementary and Transportation handled a situation on 1/3/18. My son got off the bus without his winter hat and told me a student on the bus took it off his head after he told him to stop and threw it in the bus. I called the school immediately after he got home and reported this. They told me there was NOTHING they could do and i would have to call transportation which i did immediately as well and reported it there. Transportation said they would call the bus driver and leave a message about my situation and hopefully have my sons hat back after her run. 2 weeks went by without anyyyyy phone calls. I finally called yesterday again (the school) and basically they acted like this was my first time mentioning this situation and would investigate it today. My son came down and made a statement about what happened and I got a call today about the hat. I was told I’m sorry but we don’t know where the hat is. It wasn’t on the bus. Of course it’s not NOW after 2 weeks. That’s why i called when it first happened so it could be returned. I don’t feel like this was taken seriously when another student bullied my son and took his hat off his head and threw it! I want answers.
