Saying hello to my clients from my new home office in the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach! I have many of you on extension for your taxes and wanted to send out a reminder to not wait until the last minute to file. Between so many having filed an extension and a wedding on the horizon (my eldest daughter) I know time will be tight.

The problems are still very REAL. I have clients continually getting letters stating that their return is still being processed. I have at least two clients who have still not received their refunds from tax season. I have many clients that owed yet received letters stating that the IRS needed their bank account information in order to process their refund. I even have one client that owed quite a large amount to the IRS, followed the information on their letter as they didn't contact me first and did receive a refund and I have no idea why. It looks like it's erroneous at this point.

To further add insult to injury, the states are now sending out their letters of underpayment penalties. Let me explain what this is as I know it confuses a lot of taxpayers. If you owe your state when you do your taxes, and you pay that tax due by the deadline, you may still incur an underpayment penalty. Fair? Not really as many a taxpayer do not realize they will owe. I don't make the rules I only follow them.

Let's hope for a much less frustrating tax season next year.

WHAT A MESS!

I am getting daily correspondence in regard to IRS letters being received by my clients.

The most popular one this week is the letter stating they don't have your bank account information for your refund yet you owed. If you receive this one and you did in fact OWE, just file it away with your taxes. You don't need to do anything.

For those with refunds, they are definitely behind in processing them.

I am still also seeing a lot of letters asking for further verification of energy credits, the overtime deduction and the car loan interest deduction. Send them what they are asking for and reach out if you need assistance.

I will be offline for a while as May is a very busy month for me personally but I can be reached via email and text. I won't have portal access until I get settled and get everything up and running again.

AND that's a wrap! I will be taking a month break as I am moving but I will update once I am settled then we can tackle these extensions. Thank you all for your patience during this crazy tax season.

I have already been notified by several clients that they have received letters from the IRS asking for more information in regard to the new overtime deduction, tip deduction and more strict energy credit rules. If you receive a letter, provide them what they are asking for and keep me updated via portal message or email please.
