ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE - Culvert Replacement Project in Virginia to Begin June 1, 2026

Beginning June 1, 2026, a portion of 16th Avenue West from the Highway 169 intersection to the 8th Street South intersection will be CLOSED for culvert replacement work as part of the City of Virginia’s ongoing infrastructure and storm water improvement efforts.

The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately five (5) days, depending on weather conditions.

“This project is another important step in the City’s ongoing efforts to address the flooding challenges our community has experienced in past years,” said Larry Cuffe Jr., Mayor of Virginia. “By replacing aging culvert infrastructure, we are improving storm water flow, reducing drainage issues, and investing in a more reliable system that will better protect residents, roads, and property during heavy rain events.”

Funding for this project is being provided through City of Virginia storm water utility fees and a grant secured through the Department of Iron Range Resources.

Residents and motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow additional travel time during construction.

The City of Virginia appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this important improvement project is completed.
