In July, Anstine Nature Preserve held an Anstine After Sunset event where visitors observed bats zipping overhead and a variety of nocturnal invertebrates like this Prionus californicus (as well as a multitude of spiders!)

Next Friday, August 28th, we invite you to experience Anstine After Sunset again as we loop the trails and investigate what insects are visiting our "moth sheet" setup.

Event space is currently full but you can learn more and see future events at bit.ly/AnstineNPEvents

Next Thursday, August 20th, is Stewardship Thursday at Anstine!

Every third Thursday of the month join us at 8am while we work on light stewardship projects, then feel free to explore the preserve until 11am.

The Anstine Coordinator will be happy to answer any questions about the preserve, the trails, and the local flora and fauna you may encounter.

There is no Anstine Preserve Projects event scheduled for this Saturday, August 1st. Anstine Nature Preserve will be open for our usual hours 9am to 4pm; if temperatures reach over 95°F the preserve will close early.

Some birds may be harder to see on hot days as they take shelter in the brush, but keep an eye out for hidden gems like this green lynx spider (Peucetia viridans) camouflaging on California buckwheat (Eriogonum fasciculatum).

This Friday, experience Anstine After Sunset as we loop the trails and investigate what insects are visiting our "moth sheet" setup.

In May we observed wrestling bull frogs, orbweavers in their webs, and several bat species swooping overhead at our San Diego Pollinator Week event. Now let's find out what we'll see in the middle of summer!
