“How blessed to know the luxury of shiver.”

Congratulations to Oceanside’s newly named 2026 Poet Laureate, Karla Cordero Karla Cordero.

A descendant of the Chichimeca people of Northern Mexico, Karla writes breathtaking poetry exploring language, ancestry, identity, and the borderlands. Her work holds both wonder and realism as she explores the complexities of being bilingual and transborder, seeking to understand how one body can hold two worlds.

We’re so excited to watch the trajectory of this remarkable young writer, and proud to carry “How to Pull Apart the Earth” in The Museum Store. Come celebrate her work with us.

She will also be hosting a FREE poetry workshop at OMA called “Glassless Minds” on September’s Free First Friday during Street Level x Art Walk! Join us on September 4, from 5:00-7:00pm. Hope to see you there!
