❄️ Weather Advisory and Safety Reminder ❄️

Forecasts indicate winter conditions may impact the area in the coming days. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and make necessary preparations before conditions worsen.

Please keep the following safety reminders in mind
• Wear appropriate clothing and limit exposure to cold temperatures
• Do not use outdoor cooking or heating equipment inside homes due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning
• Be mindful when using heaters and keep them away from anything that could catch fire
• Consuming alcohol can increase the danger of cold related illnesses and does not provide warmth

If travel is not essential, remain at home and avoid roadways. Reduced traffic helps prevent crashes and allows emergency crews to respond more efficiently.

Take time to check on family members, neighbors, and those who may need assistance during colder temperatures.

The Vivian Police Department will remain alert and share updates as conditions develop. Please stay safe and use caution during this weather event.

Many encounters with law enforcement and emergency services can be avoided or resolved positively through simple, informed decisions. The following safety reminders are provided to encourage responsible behavior and strengthen trust within our community.

1. Travel responsibly. When visiting another city, state, or country, know and follow the local laws. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Making informed decisions while traveling can prevent serious legal consequences.

2. Drinking and driving always leads to loss. A rideshare is far cheaper than a DUI, jail time, serious injury, or loss of life. Make the responsible choice before getting behind the wheel.

3. During a traffic stop, remain calm, polite, and cooperative. Most stops end with a warning or citation. Officers do not resolve disputes on the roadside. If you disagree with a citation, the proper place to address it is in court. Escalation only changes outcomes for the worse.

4. Always pull to the right for emergency vehicles. Seconds matter in emergencies, and your cooperation could help save a life, possibly even someone you love.

5. Do not interfere in incidents you are not directly involved in. Allow officers to do their job and let investigations unfold. Many interactions are recorded, and the truth does not need assistance to surface.

This message is shared to educate and encourage positive interactions between the public and public servants. Every profession has strengths and challenges, and progress happens when we work together as part of the solution.
