This is a good read!
Posting your numerics big and visible will help Fire, Police, and EMS find your home especially if you’re in close quarters with neighbors, AND gps likes to tell us your home is in an empty field sometimes. Dispatch tells you while you’re on the phone to make sure animals are in a secure place not only for your safety but for others. Sometimes our little friends do get protective of our mommys and daddys. Others times it may be a distraction for responding personnel because who can resist booping a snoot. Having your medications written down or already gathered up will save EMS that extra little time in doing so. We as a whole are here for you. These little extra things can help save a life. Sometimes we think it’s not going to happen to us but being prepared in the case of an emergency is dire. I would also like to add to this if you or a family member has a DNR or POST form from your doctors the best place to put this is on the refrigerator visible, it MUST be in date and signed by a doctor. That will need to be handed to personnel as soon as they get there to know what they are allowed to do with the patient. It saves time in an emergency manner so we don’t have to look for it.
🆘Serious emergencies are time-sensitive! In a life-threatening situation where you need police, fire, or medical help, ALWAYS contact 9-1-1 FIRST. After responders arrive, they will help you get in touch with your family, friend, or neighbor.
🐶After contacting 9-1-1 for an emergency, help first responders by putting pets in another room, turning on lights (and porch lights), unlocking/opening the front door, and clearing a path to the patient.
🏠Post your address in at least 2 of these locations: gate/entrance to your property, close to your door in plain sight, your alley fence, on the curb. Use large, reflective numbers so first responders can find your house easily at night.
📃Keep your medical history, medication list, doctor's phone number(s), and emergency contact list taped to the refrigerator in an envelope marked "EMERGENCY INFORMATION".
📞9-1-1 call takers and first responders will never consider you "a bother" or "a burden" if you're having a true emergency. If in doubt, go ahead and contact 9-1-1.
🚫Contacting the operator, local police, fire, or EMS offices during an emergency will not get help to you as quickly as contacting 9-1-1.
