We started the morning by paying our respects at Arlington National Cemetery, where Tennessee delegates participated in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Fort Loudoun Electric Cooperative Receives a Visit from TVA’s Hagood

The Fort Loudoun Electric Cooperative (FLEC) received a special visit from a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Board Member recently. Jeffrey Hagood, a Knoxville Attorney serving as the Chair Elect of the TVA Board of Directors, stopped by for about an hour on Wednesday, June 10th, to share a few thoughts and hear from some of the leadership of FLEC. It was noted by Hagood how FLEC had grown over the past few years and he made note of the aesthetic beauty and rich history of the area. Angela Tallent and Mike Wiggins, two of FLEC’s board officers, invited Hagood to come back and enjoy some of the local restaurants and sites.
The Cooperative’s history as a private, non-profit electricity provider of TVA generated electricity was discussed briefly by the group and it was clear that TVA was interested in knowing of any concerns or thoughts on how the relationship could be strengthened as communities continue to experience growth. Director Hagood stated he had no real agenda, “I just wanted to thank you (looking at the FLEC board members and staff present) for your relationship with TVA,” and he shared an extended appreciation in his remarks for all of the TVA and FLEC workforces and specifically the Membership of the Cooperative. FLEC’s CEO, Jarrod Brackett, shared, “Our efforts to work together have been effective to provide decades of safe, reliable and affordable electric service and we thank you…TVA’s Board… and the TVA team for their service and effective decision making to keep the lights on. This year, FLEC will celebrate 86 years of serving the people in portions of Blount, Loudon, and Monroe County and we will start work on the eleventh substation, the Clover Hill substation being built in Blount County, so that we can continue to meet the electricity needs of those we mutually serve.” Haygood acknowledged the challenges made by all and indicated with a smile that he was prepared to serve.
