No two calls are ever the same and today was a perfect reminder of that!
This morning, our crew responded to a call in the Zumbro Bottoms Recreation Area that was a little outside the ordinary: a horse rider in need of assistance. We're happy to report there were no injuries, and everyone โ rider and horse alike โ came out just fine.
But beyond the call itself, our crew took the opportunity to do something just as valuable: learn. Responding to incidents involving large animals like horses requires a specific approach to keep everyone safe โ patients, bystanders, and responders alike โ and today gave us a real-world chance to sharpen those skills.
As many of you know, Wabasha Ambulance covers the entire Zumbro Bottoms Recreation Area, one of Minnesota's most beloved outdoor destinations. Nestled along the Zumbro River in the bluffs and bottomlands of Wabasha County, the Zumbro Bottoms draws thousands of visitors each year for horseback riding, ATV and off-road riding, hunting, and camping. With 44 miles of horseback riding trails winding through that rugged, beautiful terrain, it's no surprise that we respond to a handful of calls out there each year โ this spring and summer alone, we've already answered 4 calls in the Bottoms for a variety of reasons.
We're proud to serve this area alongside our incredible partners โ Wabasha Fire Department, Kellogg Fire Department, and Kellogg First Responders โ who show up every time, no matter how unique the call.
Whether it's a trail, a back road, or a riverbank, we'll find you. That's our commitment to this community.
(Yes, that's our director getting a little hands-on experience with today's four-legged friend! All in a day's work!) ๐ด๐
