Why I Like Working at NeighborWorks Waco - by Katelyn Sharp

Working at NeighborWorks Waco has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me, both professionally and personally. What stands out most is the genuine commitment to quality and care in everything we do. Our rental homes are well-maintained, safe, and thoughtfully managed, ensuring that our residents feel proud of where they live. At the same time, we prioritize affordability, making it possible for families to access housing without being overwhelmed financially.

One of the things I value most is the freedom to truly care about our tenants. I’m encouraged to listen to their situations, offer support when needed, and treat them with compassion rather than just as accounts or numbers. That mindset extends even further; we actively support tenants in achieving homeownership, even allowing them to exit their lease without penalty if they purchase a home. That kind of policy reflects a deeper mission: we’re here to help people succeed, not hold them back!

In an industry where many property management companies focus primarily on profit, it’s refreshing to be part of an organization that genuinely puts people first. At NeighborWorks Waco, the goal is to create positive outcomes for everyone involved, and that purpose-driven work makes all the difference.

I also feel fortunate to work alongside like-minded Christian colleagues who care deeply about the community and about one another. There’s a strong sense of support not only in our work, but in our personal lives as well. That culture fosters a healthy work-life balance and creates an environment where I feel valued, encouraged, and inspired every day!

NeighborWorks Waco was proud to participate in this year’s Community Opportunity Event (COE) at the Dewey Community Center alongside so many organizations dedicated to supporting youth, teens, and young adults in our community.

The event connected hundreds of attendees with valuable local resources focused on life skills, education, mentoring, workforce opportunities, and mental and physical wellness.

Thank you to the Waco Police Department’s Neighborhood Engagement Team and Waco Parks and Recreation for bringing the community together and creating opportunities that help individuals and families build stronger futures.
