Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children

Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children Although approximately 80% of victims served at the agency are survivors of sexual assault, we help ALL victims, always free of charge.

At Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children, our mission is to promote healing of children and crime victims through culturally sensitive advocacy, collaboration, prevention and treatment. Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children first originated in 1976 as the Waco Rape Crisis Center and has evolved into an umbrella agency offering forensic interviews and medical exams, crisis counsel

ing, prevention and education and other services to children and victims of crime in McLennan, Hill, Falls, Limestone, Bosque and Freestone counties. There is hope and restoration at the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children through our three core programs, the Children’s Advocacy Center, The Victims Center, and Prevention and Education – offering many services to the hurting in our community. We are available 24/7 through our toll-free crisis hotline (888) 867-7233 for survivors of sexual assault and have physical locations at our main office in Waco, as well as satellite offices in Mexia, Hillsboro, Marlin and Fairfield. Helping all victims of violent crime across six counties, ACCVC’s many programs work together to provide life changing services and help victims in the recovery process. For more than 38 years, victims walk in their open door and walk out as survivors.

Many people have heard of a SAFE kit, but may not know what it contains. Teresa explains the items typically found in a Sexual Assault Forensic Exam (SAFE) kit and how they may be used during an exam.
[ID: Teresa (Hispanic women with long hair, wearing a yellow blouse and blue jeans) in sitting next to a table. The onscreen text in the beginning reads ‘TRIGGER WARNING: discussion about sexual assault exam’. Then it reads ‘Teresa, Bilingual Crisis Hotline Supervisor/Case Manager’. Then it reads ‘SAFE: sexual assault forensic exam…SANE: sexual assault nurse examiner’. Teresa goes on to explain items in the SAFE kit: a labeled envelope, a labeled paper bag, cotton swabs, saline, a little box, and a Beloved Bundle (which contains clothing, hygiene products, and more).]

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. 🧠♥️ Men survivors of sexual violence are often overlooked, dismissed, or forgotten. When survivors do not feel seen or supported, it can impact their mental health, emotional well-being, and healing journey.
[ID: The first slide has a light background. All text is teal. In the top right corner, it reads ‘myths and facts about male survivors’. Below, there were two ovals labeled ‘myth’ and ‘fact’. The ‘myth’ bubble reads ‘Male survivors are always gay, or the perpetrator was.’ The ‘fact’ bubble reads ‘Sexual violence is about power and control, not sexual orientation. Survivors and perpetrators can be any gender or orientation’. Around the slide, there are teal decorative graphics. The second slide contains the same content, but it is translated into Spanish.]

The Advocacy Center is here to serve all survivors of violent crimes. 🩵

Research shows that LGBTQ+ people experience higher rates of sexual violence. However, it often goes underreported due to various factors, such as: fear of not being believed, being outed, or facing more discrimination.
[ID: The first slide has a beige background. Around the perimeter of the slide, there are various folks who are dressed very colorfully. In the center, it reads ‘we are here to serve YOU’ in teal text. The second slide contains the same content, but it is translated into Spanish.]
