Good morning, McLennan County!
Our area is on the southern edge of today’s severe weather threat. Most areas will stay dry, but any storm that develops could become intense quickly, including very large hail and an isolated tornado risk. This is a classic “low coverage, high impact” setup.
We are in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for McLennan County.
We expect development to occur between 5 PM – Midnight. Initial storm development (if any) is expected west of the area along and near the dry line late this afternoon.
We will also watch for additional storms that may drift southeast overnight, however, most activity is expected to remain north of the county.
IF a thunderstorm is able to get going, the following hazards are possible:
• Very large hail (greater than 3”)
• Damaging winds
• Isolated tornado risk, with a stronger tornado possible after sunset
Storm development depends on whether the cap erodes and the dryline pushes far enough east, both remain uncertain for McLennan County.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, a similar, but weaker pattern will be in place. Again, we will have a low (~10%) chance of storms, with the main threat remaining north of the area.
Make today, a great Saturday!
