🕰️ What Is It Wednesday 🕰️

Today’s featured item is a true piece of Waco history—a cast iron bathtub that belonged to the Mann family of East Terrace House! 🛁✨

This bathtub was part of Waco’s first indoor residential bathroom, making it quite the luxury for its time. While the tub was originally cast iron in color, it was painted when the house was transformed into a museum.

But here’s a fun fact: there was no running water! That meant a servant had to carry water upstairs to fill the tub whenever someone wanted a bath. Talk about a lot of work for a little relaxation! 💧

Today, this bathtub is part of a reproduction turn-of-the-century bathroom and can be seen at the East Terrace Historic House.

At the turn of the 20th century, Waco was booming thanks to the cotton industry and the railroads that connected the city to markets across the state and beyond. As businesses flourished and opportunities grew, so did Waco. By 1930, the population had more than doubled to 53,848 people.

Fast forward to 2026, and Waco's population is estimated at approximately 147,788 residents!

From a bustling cotton market town to a thriving modern city, Waco's story is one of growth, resilience, and community. While much has changed over the last 126 years, preserving the stories, places, and people that shaped our city remains as important as ever.

🕰️ What Is It Wednesday 🕰️

Today’s featured item is a beautiful example of a friendship quilt. ❤️🧵

Friendship quilts were collaborative creations made by multiple women, with each person sewing a section and often signing their name before all the pieces were stitched together into one meaningful quilt. These quilts were commonly created to celebrate milestones or to gift to someone moving away as a lasting reminder of friendship and community. ✨

This special piece of history can be seen on display at the East Terrace Historic House and serves as a reminder of the care, connection, and craftsmanship shared across generations.

🎉 Fun Fact Friday 🎉

Did you know there’s meaning behind every detail of the Historic Waco logo? 👀✨

The orange and blue color scheme actually comes from our historic houses! 🏡 The orange is inspired by the brick found on all three of our historic house museums, while the blue matches the paint on Hoffmann House—our headquarters.

Take a closer look and you’ll spot even more history hidden in the design:
🔸 The arch in the “H” reflects the arches above the doors of our historic homes
🔹 The center of the “W” is shaped like a Waco Indian grass house

Together, these elements represent the homes of Wacoans both before and after the city was established in 1849—bringing our community’s history full circle. ❤️
