What does "surrounding students with a community of support" really look like?

Thank you to DREAM ON, a new YouTube series supported by The EdRedesign Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education for featuring the work of Communities In Schools and sharing more about our national mission.

The first episode heads to San Antonio, Texas, where Communities In Schools is making a meaningful difference for young people and their futures.

Watch now and be part of sharing what works.

This week, we celebrated our amazing 8th graders with an end-of-year pizza party! It was such a fun time to reflect on how far they’ve come, laugh together, and enjoy one last gathering before the next big step. 🎉

A special highlight was getting to meet their high school site coordinator—an important connection as our students prepare for the transition ahead.

While we are so proud of all they’ve accomplished this year, we’re also mindful that this is a big change. We’re excited to support them as they move forward with confidence into high school. 💙

We’d also like to thank HTeaO for their donation that helped make this celebration so much sweeter. The kids loved it!

Here’s to closing one chapter and starting the next—cheers to our 8th graders and all that’s ahead!

Chris has been an invaluable volunteer with Communities In Schools for several years.

He started volunteering at LaVega High School a few years ago, spent time at University High School, and last year, you could find Chris at Midway High School every Friday during lunch.

CIS friends could count on Chris for all the hard subjects and patience during the lunch tutoring sessions.

His consistency and dedication have made a tangible difference in our school community, and we are grateful for him being a part of our CIS family.

If you are interested in volunteering for the 2026-2027 school year, we would love to be in contact with you! Learn more at: https://www.cishot.org/volunteer

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re reminded that being present can change everything. 💙

At Communities In Schools, we see firsthand how mental health impacts a student’s ability to learn, grow, and thrive. That’s why we work every day to ensure students are supported—not just academically, but emotionally and mentally too.

Because when students feel seen, heard, and supported, they can show up as their best selves.

Let’s continue to break the stigma, uplift one another, and prioritize mental wellness in every community.
