Over the past year, we have:
• Reached 550+ students through health career exploration and outreach 🎓
• Supported 50+ students in structured programs like CHAMPS Scholars, Future Docs, and AHEC Scholars 🩺
• Facilitated 190+ clinical and experiential training opportunities 🤝

The CHAMPS Summer Program is a chance for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors to get real exposure to the field — through hands-on activities, clinical experiences, and time with healthcare professionals.

Join us for Waco AHEC's first annual Pipeline Showcase! An evening of celebration, reflection, and inspiration — honoring the growth and achievements of students across our programs, from high schoolers exploring health careers to future clinicians preparing for practice. Students will share personal reflections on the experiences, mentors, and programs that have helped shape their goals, and their futures. We’ll also recognize and honor the mentors and preceptors who make these journeys possible. This event is not only a celebration—it's an invitation.

Healthcare professionals, educators, and community members are encouraged to attend and discover how to get involved as a mentor, shadowing host, or clinical preceptor. Help us build a more connected, prepared, and representative health workforce for Central Texas, and launch what we hope will become an annual tradition of shared purpose and lasting impact.

Dinner will be provided!

Congress recently approved $47 million in FY26 funding for the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program, reinforcing a national investment in strengthening the healthcare workforce at a time of ongoing shortages, especially in primary care and rural communities.

AHECs play a vital role in building pathways into health careers, supporting clinical training, and providing continuing education for practicing professionals.

In 2024–2025 alone, AHECs:

Reached more than 621,000 participants

Engaged over 272,000 students in healthcare pathway programs

Facilitated nearly 30,000 clinical training rotations, many in primary care settings and communities with the greatest need

This continued bipartisan support helps ensure AHECs will continue to prepare the next generation of health professionals to serve where they are needed most.
