Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday at Baylor University School of Law for the Annual Memorial Service of the Tenth Court of Appeals and the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association.

It was a meaningful morning honoring the lives and careers of nine members of our legal community. Judge Rayford Jack Black, Justice Robert Maurice Campbell, Judge David Lee Hodges, Charles Alfred Mackenzie, Professor Louis S. Muldrow, Shepherd Spencer Neville III, Judge Tommy Lee Ragland, Justice Felipe Saenz Reyna, and Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr. each left a lasting mark on the bench, the bar, and the people they served.

Thank you to the Tenth Court of Appeals for leading the convocation, to each of the speakers, to the Baylor Law Alumni Association for hosting the reception, and to Katie Casper for coordinating the event. Most of all, thank you to the families of those we honored. Your loved ones shaped this profession, and we are grateful for the chance to remember them together.

A huge thank you to Professor Liz Fraley from Baylor Law School for an outstanding CLE presentation at our monthly luncheon last Friday! Professor Fraley, Director of Baylor's Practice Court program, gave us a thought-provoking look at Current Evidence Issues and Artificial Intelligence — a topic every practicing attorney needs to be thinking about right now. We are grateful for her time, expertise, and insight.

This Friday we pause to remember and honor those who shaped our legal community.

Join us this Friday, May 8th at Baylor Law School for the Annual Memorial Service, where we will recognize nine lawyers and judges who gave so much to the bench and bar.

Two sessions at 10:00 AM and 11:15 AM, with a reception in between. All are welcome.

The Waco-McLennan County Bar Association extends its sincere thanks to the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Texas for hosting yesterday's CLE, "Appellate Tactics for the Modern Practitioner." We were honored to co-sponsor the program alongside the McLennan County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

We were especially proud to see our own Honorable Steve Smith, Justice of the Tenth Court of Appeals, serve on an esteemed panel of justices moderated by Justice Slaughter, and local attorneys Tyler Talbert and Rick Bradley present on Preservation of Error.

A thank you to every attorney and justice who attended and contributed to a substantive afternoon of learning and collegiality. Your participation reflects the high caliber of practice in our community and makes our local bar stronger.

We look forward to continued collaboration with our colleagues across the state and across practice areas.

Thank you to everyone and their families who came out to the 2026 WMCBA Spring Social — it was great to see so many familiar faces and meet some new ones!

A special thank you to our Social Chair, Erin Baker Shank, who organized every detail of this event from start to finish. The fajitas, the margaritas, the lawn games, the venue — none of it happens without her. Erin, the Waco legal community is lucky to have you!

We hope to see everyone again at our next event in May. Stay tuned to this page for announcements.

This morning, the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association joined friends and colleagues in celebrating Judge Jim Meyer's retirement after 24 years presiding over the 170th District Court. Past Bar President Josh Borderud presented Judge Meyer with a plaque from the WMCBA recognizing his outstanding service. County Judge Scott Felton, 54th District Court Judge Susan Kelly, and attorney Dave Deaconson shared remarks about the lasting impact Judge Meyer has had on this community. We also look forward to welcoming Gina Long, another Waco-McLennan County Bar lawyer, who will take the 170th bench after winning the Republican primary and running unopposed this fall. Congratulations to both!
