Love seeing our 5th graders getting some first hand experience in agriculture. It’s the heart and soul of our community, and exposure this early on is a true investment in our young Shelby Countians!

Love seeing our high schoolers getting to stick their toe in the adult working world. They get to enter having experienced a work place, dealt with a boss, and figured out if they really like the field they think they do. These experiences will be invaluable for them!

Education is so important….no matter who you are or what stage of life you are in.

I was honored to have Sandra Ashcraft, Shelby County’s Jailer, join my weekly career-readiness class at Awake Ministries. She used her background in HR and her passion for second chances to talk about how to address incarcerations and other awkward gaps in employment that might come up while looking for a job. She was able to encourage this amazing group of ladies and gents as she shared her desire for anyone who comes through her facility to leave a better equipped person.

She called herself a life-long learner. Always learning herself, providing opportunities for inmates to learn and earn certifications, and teaching in groups like this. Thankful for her and the opportunity to learn from her!
