There have been reports of scammers calling people and pretending to be local law enforcement officers.

They may tell you that you have a citation or warrant and demand immediate payment. They often ask you to pay using a Green Dot card, Visa prepaid card, or other gift cards.

🚫 **THIS IS A SCAM**

Real police officers will **NEVER**:
• Call you demanding payment over the phone
• Ask for money using gift cards or prepaid cards
• Threaten immediate arrest if you don’t pay right away

🚩 **Warning signs:**
• Urgent or threatening language
• Requests for unusual payment methods (gift cards, etc.)
• Caller ID showing a local number (this can be faked!)

✅ **What you should do:**
• Hang up immediately
• Do NOT send any money
• Contact your local police department directly using their official number
• Report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission (reportfraud.ftc.gov)
