For nearly 80 years, Engine 4 — our 1946 American LaFrance — has been part of the Libertyville community. From serving our residents to appearing in parades and giving generations of kindergarteners their unforgettable fire truck ride, Engine 4 has created a lot of memories.

Now it’s our turn to take care of her.

Newport Township Fire Protection District Issues Air Quality Advisory Due to Wildfire
Smoke
Newport Township, IL – July 16, 2026 – The Newport Township Fire Protection District is
urging all residents to take precautions as hazardous air quality from wildfire smoke continues to
affect the area.
Smoke from regional wildfires has created unhealthy air conditions that may pose health risks to
everyone, especially older adults, young children, pregnant individuals, and those with asthma,
heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.
Residents are encouraged to follow these safety recommendations:
 Limit outdoor activities and only go outside if necessary.
 Wear a well-fitting N95 or KN95 respirator or other appropriate face covering when
outdoors, if available.
 Stay indoors with windows and doors closed. If using air conditioning, set it to recirculate
when possible to help reduce smoke entering your home.
 If your home becomes too warm or you do not have access to clean, cooled indoor air,
seek relief at the nearest available cooling center.
 Anyone experiencing severe difficulty breathing, chest pain, or another medical
emergency should call 911 immediately.
The Newport Township Fire Protection District is closely monitoring conditions and will
continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available. Residents are
encouraged to stay informed and take appropriate precautions until air quality improves.
