During World War II the HHD supported the Battalion in training Soldiers for combat and provided security for war production industries located in Detroit, Michigan. In August 1950, the HHD was reassigned to Yokohama, Japan, where it assumed the support role of manning, equipping and training Battalion staff members of their mission in Japan. As tensions increased on the Korean Peninsula, the Batt
alion along with the HHD was forward deployed to South Korea in response to North Korean aggression. At the end of hostilities the HHD was permanently assigned to Taegu, South Korea, where it continued to support the Battalion Headquarters daily assigned missions on the Korean Peninsula. During the HHD’s 46 years of service in South Korea, it provided security for the return of captured crewmen of the USS Pueblo in 1968, security in support of the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, and convoy security for the fielding of Patriot Missiles during the 1994 Nuclear Proliferation Crisis in North Korea. In September 2006, HHD relocated from South Korea to Hawaii and reestablished its Detachment Headquarters at Schofield Barracks. From November 2007 – January 2009, the HHD deployed in support of the Battalion Headquarters to Tikrit, Iraq and assumed responsibilities for providing logistical support to the Police Transition Team missions and the development of an Iraqi Police Academy. In February 2011, the HHD was once again called upon to support the Battalion Headquarters deployment to Afghanistan. From February 2011-February 2012, HHD provided support to the Battalion Headquarters staff in conducting embedded Afghan Uniformed Police mentorship of a 3-Star Afghan Police Command Headquarters. The HHD also conducted numerous logistical supply security convoys in support of their Forward Operation Base (FOB) within the Kabul Base Cluster. The HHD ensured that more than 600 Coalition Forces and civilian employees received critical equipment and supplies to sustain the FOB infrastructure and quality of life. In Peace as in War the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 728th Military Police Battalion Soldiers stand ready to provide excellent support to the Battalion Headquarters in a time of persistent conflict.
