There are certain people who have had an impact on my life that I will just never forget. For the last two weeks there is one that has been on my mind a lot. I remember him specifically starting on 08 OCT and more on 13 OCT because of the events that surrounded him two years ago. What I remember him for is his care for others, determination to win, courage to face the danger, and humor to make darker moments a little brighter. SSG Taylor, this shout out is for you.
For those of you that don't know, on 08 OCT 2011, the Wolfhounds began a deliberate offensive operation in Northern Kunar Afghanistan to close the Ghazibad Gap and build OP Shal. The operation resulted in an estimated 150-200 enemy combatants killed or severely wounded, a significant decrease in violence and increased stabiltiy in area well after our battalion return home.
While the gains were great, so were the losses. We lost two great Americans during intense fighting at OP Shal. One a combat medic from the 82nd, SGT Cowdry. And the other, SSG Houston Taylor, 4th PLT, Delta Company.
You will always be remembered.
