Today, Chaplain (Maj) Paul Roman, chaplain of the 8th Military Police Brigade hosted a Prayer Breakfast for Soldiers and Family members within the brigade.

Guest speaker Chaplain (Lt. Col) Pete Keough spoke about Spiritual resilience. He said there will always be conflict, and at times your faith and strength will be tested. However, how you deal with it is by surrounding yourselves with family and the brothers and sisters around you.

Faith extends beyond denominational boundaries and religious traditions.

We are united with comrades in common service and common prayer for our beloved country.

As you all well know we are approaching the Fall time frame and that most important of Holidays, Thanksgiving. This is probably in the top two of my favorite holidays, it's a time to spend with family and friends, giving thanks for what we have in life... Love, Grace, Hope and of course food....

But, we all also understand that there are families within our very formation and others on this installation that need assistance during this time. As part of the Schofield Barracks Build-A-Basket campaign, we have established two collection points in each Battalion footprint and one in the Brigade building where we will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items. The flyer attached to this communication gives a listing of the acceptable food items, so please feel free to bring by the food and leave it in the container that is provided. We will ensure that it is delivered to the garrison collection point and becomes part of the food baskets that will be distributed.

Another way to donate is to head to the commissary and purchase a food basket from them. They will deliver the basket to the collection point for you and take care of all the leg work.

If you have Soldiers that you would like to register for a food basket, please contact your Company 1SG.

WATCHDOGS!

We shall never forget the bravery and courage of those who lost their lives during that harrowing moment September 11.

09/02/2020

The attached video discusses Su***de Awareness and go over the ACE Program. Also, Maj. Warnock discusses how su***de personally affected his family.

09/02/2020

September is Su***de Awareness and Prevention Month, in 2018 the Armed Services lost 541 Service Members to Su***de, 139 of these were fellow Active Duty Soldiers. These are fellow Soldiers, friends, co-workers and Family. One su***de is too much and during the month of September we take time to remember the ones we have lost, learn how we can help a fellow Soldier, and grow together as we support our fellow Soldiers, Co-workers, and Family. The truth is that Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Pain is real, but so is HOPE, LOVE, and CARING; please take the time out of your schedule to offer someone HOPE, take out some time of show your LOVE and take out some time to CARE for life.

Thucydides was an Athenian historian and general during the Peloponnesian War about 2500 years ago. He said something which rightly describes our nation's heroes, whom we are to honor on Memorial Day:

"The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it."

Throughout our nations history down to the present day, our heroes have demonstrated their courage under fire and unwavering commitment to our nation, even under unbearable conditions, for our sake. As good fruits prove how good the tree is, our heroes, gone before us, testified that our country and therein: Freedom, rights, prosperity, hope, happiness, and opportunities are worthy of our sacrifice, even the ultimate sacrifice.

May God allow and empower us to continue the same service as we pass down our splendid history and marvelous legacy to our children (and our Soldiers). What you do today, to include prayers and faithful service for our nation, matters! The righteous build the nation, indeed (Proverbs 14:34)!

Blessings, Very Respectfully,

"Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon."
- Nehemiah 4:17

In this verse, Nehemiah is leading leading the effort to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem while surrounded by enemies eager to attack. The danger of attack was so great that the people had to work with a tool in one hand and a weapon in the other, being constantly prepared to fight while still having a non-combat mission to do.

This should hit home for all of us Soldiers who are in support MOSs. All of us have a job to do which is not directly related to combat. At the same time, all of us are Soldiers who can be called into combat at any time. We have a dual responsibility to do our jobs and to be ready to fight.

"So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days."
- Nehemiah 6:15

Those who were rebuilding Jerusalem's walls in Nehemiah's day knew this and succeeded in rebuilding the walls by hand in only 52 days, a tremendous accomplishment. Through diligent effort and God's grace, we can also both perform our immediate mission and be ready to defend our nation and our way of life from those who would destroy both of them and us as well.

Battle of the Coral Sea: This naval battle, occurring southeast of New Guinea, would turn out to be a tactical victory for Imperial Japan, but a strategic victory for the Allies. It was a tactical victory for Japan in that Japan sank a greater tonnage of Allied ships than vice-versa. It was a strategic victory for the Allies in that it turned back the Japanese attempt to capture the town of Port Moresby and use it as a staging area for an attack and possible invasion of Australia. The Japanese would have to content themselves with landing on the north coast of New Guinea and trying to capture Port Moresby by land, an effort which would ultimately fail.

Incidentally, this was the first battle ever between aircraft carriers, as well as the first naval battle in history in which opposing ships never saw each other nor directly fired upon each other. The age of naval power as a platform for artillery was almost over, and a new chapter in the history of naval warfare had begun. In this new chapter, naval power was now a mobile platform for air power.

Devotional Thought:

This past week, in my daily Bible reading, I read 1 Chronicles 28:20, in which King David is old and passing on the throne of Israel to his son, Solomon. As if it were not a big enough responsibility to try to fill David's shoes, David has for years been saving building materials for the building of the temple in Jerusalem, given Solomon the plans for it, and charges him that it must be "exceedingly magnificent." This was a huge responsibility for a 20-year-old.

However, David comforts Solomon with these words:

"Be strong and of good courage, and do it. Fear not, nor be discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, will be with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work."

David was quoting from God's words to Joshua about 450 years earlier, when Moses had just died and Joshua was not only taking over from a legendary leader (as would Solomon), but had the huge responsibility of leading the children of Israel into and conquering the Promised Land.

Both Joshua and Solomon were young and had big responsibilities. Most people in the Army are also fairly young and often have much greater responsibilities than others of similar age. Some of these include:

1. Living far from home and family
2. Performing dangerous duties
3. Defending the freedom of our country, our people and our allies

Yet just as God assured Joshua of God's presence and guidance, and just as David promised Solomon the same, God is still there for us also. If we seek Him, He is there for us, comforting, leading, giving us purpose and joy. He will ultimately lead us to victory over our situation and responsibilities, just as He did for Joshua and Solomon!

More than 250 prominent Armenians—civic and political leaders, teachers, writers, and clergy—are rounded up and imprisoned. Many will be tortured and killed, the beginning of the Armenian Genocide by the then-Ottoman Empire. In all, about 1.5 million Armenians and 500,000 Greeks will be murdered.

Today is the last day of Passover. Passover is a celebration of the events described in the second book of the Hebrew Bible (Exodus of the Old Testament). According to the narrative, the Egyptians had enslaved the children of Israel, but the God of Israel had sent nine plagues against Egypt in order to show his superiority to the gods of Egypt. In the tenth plague, Passover, the God of Israel "passed over" the houses of the children of Israel who, at His command, had placed lamb's blood on their doorposts. However, He killed all the firstborn of the Egyptians, both man and beast. When this happened, Pharaoh, king of Egypt, not only let Israel go but begged them to go.

While God's dealings with us today may not be as dramatic, God is still at work in human affairs. While our problems may seem difficult or even impossible, God is still in control, and He still loves us. What seems impossible to us is possible for the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He can do more than we can do, more than we can even imagine.
