On 9 April 2024, 18th TD’s Commander, CPT Vinluan and Mobility Officer 2LT Hacker with 259 HR Company’s Commander CPT Davis-Rolle and 1SG Echevarria participated in a SMEE (Subject Matter Expert Exchange) with Philippine Army representatives discussing Reception, Staging, Onward Movement and Integration (RSOI) and Reverse RSOI. This exchange allowed not only for the sharing of knowledge and expertise, but also aided in bolstering our multi-national partnership.

🇺🇸The Chief of Staff of the Army has announced that Col. R.J. Garcia will be promoted to brigadier general and become the next Commandant of Cadets at the U.S. Military Academy.

Garcia graduated from West Point in 1996 and holds a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Military Academy, a Master of Science from Kansas State University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Garcia, originally from San Antonio, Texas, is a Senior Army Aviator who has earned the Combat Action Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Army Staff Badge. His awards and decorations are commensurate with his positions of responsibility and time in service.

He has served in various locations and duty positions across the United States and overseas, to include the 2nd Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Division, 3rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army Human Resources Command, the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, 1st Cavalry Division, the U.S. Military Academy, 1st Armored Division, the Army Staff, 25th Infantry Division, and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. He is currently serving as deputy commander (support), 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

He will replace Maj. Gen. Lori L. Robinson who will become commanding general, U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala.

A change of command ceremony is planned for later this year.

Last week we had a sending off for a wearer of many hats, SSG Miranda Landrum.

SSG Landrum has been in 25th Sustainment Brigage for four years, three and a half of those spent with 18th TD. She will be continuing her Army journey with the 3rd Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, VA with hopes to drop her Warrant Officer Application Packet in Fall 2024.

“Family is not just an important thing, it is everything.”

This morning, Staff Sergeants Faviola and Melissa Martinez re-enlisted to continue their journeys in the United States Army. With their daughter, Malia Rose, they will head to Fort Liberty for three more years of Army fun. They will be greatly missed by their 18th TD and HHC DSTB ohana, and we wish them the best of luck in their transition and travels.
