‘Twas the night before Nationals, and all through the place,
Not a dog was relaxing, they were ready to race.
The bumpers were packed, and the crates tucked away,
In hopes of big jumps on competition day.
The handlers were restless, their nerves running high,
Dreaming of dogs that could practically fly.
The towels were folded, the leashes were tight,
While visions of ribbons danced through the night.
The docks would be busy, the pools shining blue,
With old friends and new ones and memories to make, too.
From Distance to Hydro, Air Retrieve in between,
Tomorrow would bring quite the incredible scene.
Some dogs were veterans, some brand-new to the game,
But every last one had a reason they came.
For titles and ribbons are wonderful, it's true,
But the best part of Nationals is the dog next to you.
So cheer for your friends, let your voices ring clear,
Celebrate every jump, every splash, every cheer.
For the years pass too quickly, and moments don't stay,
So treasure each second along the way.
And as we turn in for one final good night,
With our dogs by our sides and our dreams shining bright,
There's one thing to remember when the morning's in sight…
Happy Nationals to all, and to all a GOOD FLIGHT!
