The County of Maui Department of Human Concerns Office on Aging is inviting community members to share their input on aging services, which will help shape future services and resources for older adults, caregivers and their families across Maui Nui.

“The voices of our community are essential to shaping a stronger, more age-friendly Maui County,” County Executive on Aging Rowena Dagdag-Andaya said. “Every perspective shared helps us better understand the needs of our kūpuna, caregivers and families. By listening and learning from those we serve, we can direct resources where they will have the greatest impact and create a community where everyone can age with dignity, connection and support.”

Residents are encouraged to contribute by taking an online survey and joining a community focus group.

Take the online community survey: Share thoughts on current needs, challenges and priorities facing older adults and caregivers in Maui County. The survey is open to all community members, with a special focus on older adults, people with disabilities, caregivers, family members who support them and professionals who serve these populations. Join a community focus group: The Office on Aging will be holding a series of focus groups throughout Maui County to gather in-depth feedback from community members. Discuss local needs, identify service gaps and explore ideas for strengthening support for older adults, caregivers and people with disabilities. Feedback from the online survey and focus groups will craft the 2027-2031 Maui County Area Plan on Aging, a roadmap for aging services in Maui County that includes information on community demographics, emerging trends, service needs, goals, funding priorities and strategies to support healthy aging.

Every four years, Office on Aging is required to develop an Area Plan on Aging that outlines how services will be prioritized and resources allocated to meet the needs of older adults, caregivers and their families. The final plan is submitted to the Hawaiʻi Executive Office on Aging and helps inform the Hawaiʻi State Plan on Aging.

Project LAUNCH (Linking Actions for Unmet Needs in Children’s Health) is a 5-year grant funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to promote the wellness of young children from birth through age 8 by addressing their physical and mental health needs.⁠

Lāhainā Strong is hosting a community work day this coming Tuesday, June 30th from 8am - 3pm in ʻĪao Valley.

Their main task for the day will be lumber hauling. They have about 10 trees that need to be moved from the clearing zone to the wood chipper.

What to bring/wear: Please wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes, pants, and long sleeves. We recommend bringing a water bottle and a solid pair of work gloves if you have them.

County of Maui Department of Public Works (DPW) encourages community members to attend a virtual meeting and open house on the West Maui Greenway Environmental Assessment Project from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

The West Maui Greenway is a proposed 25-mile, multiuse trail, that traverses the West Maui Coast and connects Ukumehame in the south to Līpoa Point in the north. As part of the planning and approval process, state law requires that an environmental assessment be conducted on the shared-use path.
 
Hosted by DPW and consultants SSFM International, Thursday night’s meeting will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about West Maui Greenway’s environmental assessment process. Also, residents are encouraged to view and provide feedback on proposed design considerations via project website, https://ssfm.konveio.com/westmauigreenway (input can be received from June 25 through July 24, 2026).
 
Physically separate from Honoapi‘ilani Highway, West Maui Greenway is envisioned to provide a safe, alternative form of transportation for commuters and recreational users. Also, the trail would serve as an emergency access and evacuation route, a protective fire break and a potential space for relocating utilities underground.
 
DPW proposes to construct the West Maui Greenway by repurposing abandoned cane haul roads and a railroad right-of-way to link locations between Ukumehame and Līpoa Point. Once completed, the West Maui Greenway will connect communities throughout the region to destinations, such as schools, workplaces, shops, parks and beaches.

The County of Maui Department of Water Supply has published its 2026 Water Quality Report, summarizing drinking water quality testing results collected from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2025. The report is available online at www.mauicounty.gov/247/Water-Quality-Report.

Department staff conduct hundreds of water quality tests each year and closely monitor water systems throughout Maui County to maintain consistent water quality and ensure compliance with federal and state drinking water standards.

The report compiles the results of these tests and provides information on drinking water delivered across Maui County, including its source and quality and the results of water quality monitoring. It also explains how drinking water is treated and outlines efforts to protect drinking water sources.

Customers may view online and print the report for their respective water system or service area.
