Waitsburg’s special events calendar remains uncluttered this weekend with just enough novelty to make sure you’re paying attention.

Friday night, the Bluegrass Jam is at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Walla Walla. Grab a meal, soak in some Americana, and make a night of it. If that’s not enough drama for you, head to Liberty Theater in Dayton to watch Reagan and Gorbachev toe the line of nuclear annihilation in ‘The Brink of War’.

Saturday morning brings you an opportunity to explore what transportation looked like before 1915 with the Horseless Carriage Club of America. The ‘Brass Brass Walla Walla’ tour will be in the area August 28 - 31 with an estimated 17 cars arriving from surrounding states. They’re scheduled to swing by Bruce Museum Saturday morning, so get your coffee to go and stroll on down to the museum for a peek.

Sunday afternoon, there’s a great opportunity for kids and families to play games, listen to live music by area youth, and enjoy a meal at Waitsburg Fairgrounds. We hear rumors of hotdogs and snow cones, and we hope it’s all true! Admission, all activities, and a meal are covered with $10 on entry, and proceeds go to help support the administrative and insurance cost of RYES. For those unfamiliar, they provide the umbrella non-profit status for eight different area youth groups. From basketball and football to Urban Forestry and Youth in Government, it’s a very worthy cause.

Enjoy!

The lineup this weekend is short and sweet— just like Wolfling’s dessert in a glass, ‘Key Lime Pie’.

While most of the kids camps and special programs have wrapped up for the summer, Weller Public Library’s kids programming is still going strong with their regular activities, plus a fun drop-in JURASSIC SUN PRINTS art project on Saturday.

The BLUEGRASS JAM had a last minute switcheroo from the Mikkelsen Barn to the TVAMP space on Main Street for tonight. Further afield, SPIDERMAN: BRAND NEW DAY is playing at the Liberty with all the regular show times.

Other than that, it’s all the usual fun with perfect weather for cool beverages, grabbing a bite with friends, splashing in the river, lazing in the shade, and soaking up the final weeks of summer.

Enjoy!

Through the smoky haze of wildfire season, harvest continues and we’re making the most of summer. The fun for young thespians this week is the Missoula Children’s Theater production of ALADDIN. This week is rehearsals culminating with performances on Friday night and a Saturday Matinee. Reserve your tickets online.

For a little change of venue, Ten Ton is hosting the BLUEGRASS JAM on Friday night. This is an all ages event, and if the air clears enough to claim patio seating at Royal Block, you might be able to hear them while enjoying a refreshing beverage. Just down the street, Walla Walla DJ will be firing up FRIDAY NIGHT KARAOKE at Whiskey Canyon starting at 9PM.

Saturday morning is the FARMER’S MARKET, and they continue to have a lovely array of goods, treats, and even some fresh local produce! While you’re in the neighborhood, it’s also the perfect time to pop in at WAITSBURG GARDEN CENTER–– a fresh load of juicy local melons has just arrived, Walla Walla Sweets are in stock, and they have some great deals on plants.

Finally, Liberty Theater has THE ODYSSEY on the big screen for a second week, but no showing on Friday as kids will be taking the stage.

Enjoy!

What a fun weekend we have lined up! Friday’s BLUEGRASS JAM is at their most refreshing location–– Wolfling Coffee. Grab a cool beverage, claim a comfortable corner, and enjoy the live music. All ages, 7PM. Further afield, the Liberty Theater is showing a star-studded cinematic version of THE ODYSSEY, and naturally we’re looking forward to seeing the Sirens scene.

Friday through Sunday is the D+R VINTAGE MARKET, 9AM-2PM. This month’s focus is books, art paper goods and ephemera, and there’s a swoon-worthy selection of vintage children’s books, very special DIY collage kits including mounting board and frames from TATE ART WAITSBURG, art posters, and ephemera.

Saturday, Weller Public Library has a fun STONE AGE SKETCH activity for the kids, 9AM - 2PM. BROCKMEYER FAMILY WINES will be pouring their award-winning wines at the Royal Block from 3 - 6PM. And finally, ART TALK returns at 6PM with artist Dennis Masback who will be joining via Zoom. The work up for consideration is Untitled #10013, an acrylic on wood. For those familiar with his current color-drenched figurative work, the restraint of this abstract piece from 2000 demonstrates quite an evolution in process. We can’t wait to hear all about it.

Enjoy!

OBSERVED: An impromptu reading at Royal Block Friday morning with cultural journalist (Condé Nast) and novelist Boris Kachka. He’s in the area working on an article about Walla Walla and Waitsburg, and we’re delighted that he had a moment to share with us.
