The Wake Forest Police Department hosted their 2026 WFPD Touch-A-Truck fundraiser for Special Olympics NC on Saturday, August 29 at The Factory.

Families and children enjoyed an all-access pass to police cars, fire trucks, Public Works vehicles, and much more! Thanks to our incredible community, more than 1,600 people attended the event. Together, we raised $9,550, with all proceeds benefiting Special Olympics North Carolina.

Shoutout to Town of Wake Forest Public Works, Wake Forest Fire Department, Capital City Curb & Gutter, Capital Chevrolet, CBS 17, Moffat Pipe, NC State Highway Patrol, Wake County Sheriff's Office, Two Roosters Ice Cream, and Bobastic.taste! Your support made this event a success!

A special thank you to all of the Police Officers, staff, and Junior Cadets that helped make this event a possibility!

The traffic signal for southbound South Franklin Street at the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass intersection is inoperable.

NCDOT is aware of the issue, but there is no timetable for when the traffic signal will be operational.

Stop signs have been installed at the bypass entry.

In addition, the eastbound left turn lane from the Dr. Calvin Jones Hwy/NC 98 Bypass onto South Franklin Street is closed.

Motorists are urged to slow down and proceed with caution through the intersection.

Join the Wake Forest Police Department for their 2026 WFPD Touch-A-Truck fundraiser for Special Olympics NC on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at The Factory, 1839 S. Main St.

The cost is $5 per person and $20 per family of any size. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics of NC.

In 2018 the Wake Forest Police Department (WFPD) received international accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA). The accreditation verifies that the WFPD meets CALEA’s industry best-practice standards and has attained public safety professional excellence.

In 2023, as part of a continuous effort to maintain its CALEA accreditation, the WFPD introduced a public portal for community comments at https://bit.ly/WFPDAccreditation.

The online portal is designed to receive comments regarding WFPD’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for maintaining its accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns, but the overall intent is to provide WFPD with information to support continuous improvement and foster the pursuit of professional excellence.

CALEA is not an investigatory body, so the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation. Coffee with a Cop is back!! ☕

Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Stewart’s Bistro, 3652 Roger’s Rd.

“Coffee with a Cop” provides a unique opportunity for law enforcement and community members to come together in an informal, neutral setting to discuss community issues and build relationships - one cup of coffee at a time.

Most of the contact law enforcement officers have with the public tends to occur during emergencies or emotional situations, which are often not the best times to build relationships. “Coffee with a Cop” aims to breaks down barriers and allow for relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

All community members are invited to attend, ask questions, and learn more about the WFPD.

The WFPD plans to host future “Coffee with a Cop” events over the next several months at shops and restaurants throughout Wake Forest. For more information, email Sgt. J. McArthur at [email protected].

There will also be sensory bags provided by SPIRIT Wake Forest available for individuals who may be experiencing sensory overload while attending the event. These bags include noise-canceling headphones, fidgets, sunglasses, and communication cards to help ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.

To protect Wake Forest residents from becoming victims of crime when selling or purchasing items advertised online, the Wake Forest Police Department has an initiative designed to provide a safe zone for transactions called "Operation Safe Sale."

Wake Forest residents who are selling or purchasing items advertised online may come to the Wake Forest Police Department, 225 S. Taylor St., to complete their transaction. Transactions may be made in the police department parking lot or inside the lobby, either with or without an officer present.

At the request of either party, a police officer will be available to check the serial number to determine whether the item has been entered through state or national databases as stolen property.

Anyone wishing to have an officer present will be required to schedule an appointment by calling 919-554-6150.

Operation Safe Sale aligns with Goal 3 of the Wake Forest Strategic Plan: Fostering a Safe, Diverse & Welcoming Community.
