New: at the upcoming Pumpkin Collection - EV Showcase mashup, we'll also be collecting candy wrappers for specialty recycling. So start saving them up now (we know you're eating some ahead of Halloween night...) and bring them along to the Pumpkin / EV Event on Sun Nov 8th (10am-1pm at WMGLD lots).

How many pumpkins can we fit in a truck? Join us on Sun Nov 8th for a centralized pumpkin collection event! Bring us your carved, your rotten, your painted pumpkins, and bumpy gourds of all colors, and help us fill a Black Earth Compost truck! This is instead of the collection at the elementary schools, so make a plan to pop by on Nov 8th at the Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department parking lot between 10am-1pm if you want to toss the pumpkins into the truck yourself (and stay for the EV showcase also at the same time and place). Or if you can't make it during that time, a tarp will be out at their front parking lot from 8am that day, so you can leave your pumpkin then. These pumpkins will become rich soil for gardens!

The Middlesex Conservation District's Lawn to Meadow program is happening again. Check out this page for more info and sign up your lawn by 10/31 deadline. Have you wondered what those green Link vans are you see driving around Wakefield and Reading? It’s a new free transportation option for community members 16 and over (and under 16 when riding with an adult). Learn more about this on-demand, all-electric Link shuttle service at our community infosession on October 14.

Community members of all ages are welcome at the Senior Center, located at 30 Converse Street, at 3 p.m. Guests will hear about the shared-ride service concept, learn about the vehicle fleet, and hear how this service complements the existing Town of Wakefield Council on Aging transportation program. Guests who need technical guidance can also receive hands-on assistance with the program’s Ride Circuit app.

What is the Link?
The service provides convenient, door-to-door transportation within Wakefield and Reading. Community members can use it when meeting friends for lunch, shopping downtown, heading to the library, going to the Commuter Rail station, and more. The service is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This regional effort was made possible through a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's Microtransit and Last-Mile Transit Grant Program. Residents can request rides through the Ride Circuit app or by calling (781) 782-2521, making it easier to reach local destinations without relying on a personal vehicle.
