25 people of all ages from 6 yo to 70+ joined in the effort pulling garlic mustard from the land around Crystal Lake this past Saturday. Event organizer Christine Rioux estimated 30-40% of the second year garlic mustard ready to disperse seeds was removed. A huge visible difference! HUGE thanks to this mighty crew!! And we'll be at it again this coming Saturday (30th) 9am-11am, so please join us! Bring your work gloves and a bottle of water, we'll have bags and we'll show you what to garlic mustard looks like.

ATTN residents- I am partnering with Town of Wakefield, MA - Government for my fifth annual Recycling & Sustainability event on Saturday, May 30, 9a-11a, at Wakefield Memorial High School.

At the event, Wakefield residents can learn about existing programs and new Community Solar options with Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department, which also will collect and dispose dehumidifiers free of charge. A shredding truck will also be at this event for safe destruction of documents. Attendees can engage with a variety of local groups including Wakefield Youth Action Team to learn about projects the Team has worked on, including support kits, care packages, and reducing the use of ni****ne. Wakefield Environmental Sustainability Committee (ESC) will be collecting black plastic (e.g. takeout containers, plant store pots), school supplies, and used sports equipment for its sports swap; find more information on the group’s page. And Reservoir will be sharing information and live demonstrations of smart electric water heaters. At her table, Representative Lipper-Garabedian will collect used eyeglasses or sunglasses to be distributed to developing nations.

Residents can donate furniture to Project Home Again and further bring the following household items to donate to Habitat for Humanity: dishware, kitchenware, pots and pans (must be clean and less than five years old), lamps, picture frames, and clean bedding (washed and bagged).

With no fee per car, residents can recycle outdated electronics with peace of mind for proper data erasing with Green Team Junk Removal. Fees will be charged for rigid plastics ($10 apiece), TVs ($20), monitors ($20), window ACs ($10), mattresses ($50), box springs ($50), and car tires ($15 with rims or $12 without). Residents also can recycle Styrofoam ($5 per full bag). Cash, card, and checks made payable to “Green Team Junk Removal” will be accepted. Questions can be directed to [email protected] or (508) 361-0519.

We had another exciting Fix-It Clinic this past Sunday. Fixed items included a turntable, lamp, pencil sharpener, printer, watch, scooter, stuffed lion, and a couple of sweaters. Huge thanks to our volunteers for their time and skills and to Creative Chaos Emporium for hosting us again! We'll do another in a month or two, so hang onto your items in need of repair. (Or if they are truly hopeless, bring them to the Recycling and Sustainability Day 5/30 for responsible disposal - https://www.facebook.com/events/1225350772818454)

Amazing work by a ton of Warrior Clean Up Crew volunteers today! Bags and bags of trash (including tires, dog poo bags, nips, and all sorts of nonsense). AND some volunteers opportunistically pulled invasive Garlic Mustard plants that were all around the area too. For more garlic mustard, join us the next two Saturday mornings at Crystal Lake.
