School starts, Thursday is final Plaza Jazz, Fall is coming...what else????

WOW....coffee table sized books on the Everyday Book Shelves at the Beebe. $5.00 each......what a bargain. Hurry down and check every few days, limited supplies and we want them all to have a good home. Think Holidays!!!!

Final Plaza Jazz this Thursday at the Lucius Beebe Memorial Library featuring Lee Fish, 6-8 PM on the Plaza in front of the library

I know, where did the summer go to? Let's celebrate together and enjoy the final Jazz performance this Thursday night.

Boston-born drummer and composer Lee Fish has been part of the thriving Brooklyn music scene since 2018. While at Berklee, Lee played with distinctive leaders including Jason Palmer, Esperanza Spalding, Nadia Washington, and Evgeny Lebedev — Lee became a highly sought musician in Boston and will now share his talent with the Wakefield community.

Yale Collection of Shakespeare - are you interested?

Sometimes we have some amazing collections left after our sale. Yes, we are cleaning out storage and have 35 volumes of this wonderful Yale Collection of Shakespeare. We believe the entire set is 40 volumes so some are missing but it is in good condition and they are small books so won't take up too much room. Friends of Beebe would love to find a good home for this set for a donation of your choice. Please let us know if you are interested and we can deliver or arrange to meet you for pickup.

Ann Patchett is coming to the BPL! I repeat, Ann Patchett is coming to the BPL on Saturday, October 3 to headline the 2026 Maury A. Bromsen Humanistic Literary Arts Lecture!

✍🏼️Hear the award-winning author speak on her work and writing career of over 30 years. As one of TIME ’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, Patchett has won a National Humanities Medal, the PEN/Faulkner Award, and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Get to the Lucius Beebe Memorial Library today for your end of summer reading.

Beebe Library will be closed for HVAC Work Aug. 24 - 27
The physical building will have a new chiller and the replacement of two rooftop a/c units; current equipment has seen more than 25 years of active use.

The Beebe will be closed from August 24 - 27, 2026. Staff will be unavailable during this time. The outside drop boxes will remain open, however due dates have been extended so no books will be overdue while we are closed.

We invite you to use your Wakefield library card in Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Lynnfield, or at any other NOBLE network library during this time to check out new books (they can be returned to Wakefield when we reopen) or get help from a librarian. Visit the library's website to stream ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies, tv shows, and music. We look forward to seeing you back in the building on Friday, August 28.

Library Closing for A/C Improvements Aug 24-27th

The long-awaited improvements to the Beebe HVAC system will begin on Monday, August 24. These improvements include a new chiller and the replacement of two rooftop units. All equipment has seen more than 25 years of active use.

To complete the installation, the building will be closed from August 24 - 27, 2026. Staff will be unavailable during this time. The outside drop boxes will remain open, however due dates have been extended so no books will be overdue while we are closed

Our final Farmers Market book give-a-way was today. It was dry and sunny and Laura, our Wakefield Farmers Market Manager is doing a great job finding placement for vendors given all the construction. Great job Laura!

And thanks to all who visited, took home books and made donations. We love to chat with you about what you are reading and we so love to see the kids choose what to bring home.

Busy Week for Friends of Beebe...

Our final book give a way of this season will be at Wakefield Farmers Market this Saturday. We should all be aware that space is limited given the construction taking place. So, please come visit and take books for yourself and your kids. Donation jars will be available if you choose to support us BUT it is important for us to give away remaining inventory of books.

Don't forget those family and friends who can't get out in the heat. Bring a bag and grab some books for them as well.

See you Saturday.....support the vendors at FM.....weather is supposed to be great.

Books! Our last giveaway of the 2025-26 year. Come visit us at the Wakefield Farmers Market this Saturday, August 15, from 9-1. Our spot is near a corner, with the back of our tent up against the construction area. Look for the blue topped tent.
