MADISON, Wis. – As daylight saving time comes to an end on Nov. 2, it is time to fall back on safety and emergency preparedness. ReadyWisconsin encourages people to take this opportunity to protect what matters most.

“When clocks change twice a year, it’s the perfect time to check and refresh preparedness measures that keep us safe,” said Wisconsin Emergency Management Administrator Greg Engle. “This seasonal shift allows us a moment to make sure we are ready for the unexpected, from house fires to power outages.”

Daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov. 2 At 2 a.m., clocks will fall back an hour to standard time.

Working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms could mean the difference between life and death. They help alert you to danger whether it is smoke from a fire or harmful invisible gas leaks from furnaces and other appliances. Take time to:

Test all alarms in your home.
Replace batteries in these alarms at least once a year.
Check the manufacture date on your alarms. Carbon monoxide alarms should be replaced around every five to seven years. Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years.
As heating systems kick into full gear, it is important to take precautions to prevent home fires. Have furnaces and chimneys professionally inspected. If you use a space heater, make sure they are at least three feet away from anything that is flammable. If your furnace or HVAC was impacted by flooding this summer, make sure it is inspected as there could be risks with damaged equipment or mold growth within your systems.

If you have an emergency kit at home, this weekend is also a great time to check for expired products or items that may have been borrowed for other purposes and need to be replaced. Pay attention to the expiration dates on batteries, first aid supplies and food.

Daylight saving time ends this Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 a.m.!🕑

Community & Service

I was asked to run for the Village Board by former Village Clerk Michelle Brecht. Unfortunately, I did not win that election. However, when the winner later resigned, I was appointed by Former Village President Dekker to the Board. What I enjoy most about serving the Village of Waldo is being involved in decision-making and hopefully doing what’s best to keep Waldo a strong community.

Personal Connection

I’ve lived in the Village of Waldo for 34 years. I moved here because it’s where my wife lived her whole life, and she kept telling me what a great community it is. What I love most about living here is the small-town friendliness and how everyone looks out for each other, there’s a certain family feel among the residents. My favorite Village event is the Kids’ Halloween Party, which really shows that sense of community.

Fun & Lighthearted

My favorite way to spend my free time is watching baseball and spending time with my family. If I could describe Waldo in one word, it would be home, because everybody here looks out for one another and makes you feel like family.

National First Responders Day

Today we pause to say a sincere thank you to the brave men and women who answer the call when we need them most — our firefighters, first responders, and emergency medical personnel.

The Waldo Fire Department, Adell First Responders, and Orange Cross Ambulance serve our community with incredible dedication, compassion, and courage. Many of them are volunteers who leave their families, their jobs, and the comfort of home—often in the middle of the night—to help others in their most critical moments. They do this with little or no compensation, simply because they care.

Their willingness to serve is the heart of what keeps our small communities strong. We are deeply grateful for every alarm answered, every life saved, and every quiet act of service that too often goes unnoticed.

If you have ever thought about making a difference, the Waldo Fire Department is always looking for new members. It takes ordinary people with extraordinary hearts to fill these roles, and your community needs you.

Thank you to all first responders for your sacrifice, courage, and unwavering commitment. You are the true heroes among us.

💧 Utility Billing Reminder – Village of Waldo

Some residents have noticed their utility bill is a little higher this month. This is just a reminder of how the seasonal billing process works:

🗓️ May–September bills: Sewer charges are based on your average usage from January–April.

🗓️ October–April bills: Sewer charges are based on your actual water usage each month.

The base rates have not changed — the difference you may see is simply because we’ve switched back to actual usage for sewer billing.

We appreciate your understanding and hope this helps clear up any confusion!

As always, please contact the Village Office if you have questions. 920-528-8121, [email protected]. Village website:

Trick-or-Treat & Halloween Skate Reminder 🎃🛼

The Lions Club Halloween Roller Skating Party (Memorial Hall) runs 6:00–8:30 p.m.

If you’re handing out candy: please turn your porch light on so kids know you’re participating.

Drivers: please slow down and watch for children crossing the road—costumes can make them hard to see.

Have a fun and safe Halloween weekend, Waldo! 👻🧡

🚨 Hydrant Flushing Update 🚨

The Village of Waldo completed hydrant flushing on Tuesday, October 21st, and Wednesday, October 22nd. However, one hydrant located at the end of Mulberry Drive could not be flushed due blocked access.

That hydrant will be flushed tomorrow, Friday, October 24th, between noon and 1:00 p.m.

Residents in the area may notice temporary water discoloration or lower water pressure during this short period. This is normal and should clear up after running your cold water for a few minutes.

Thank you for your understanding as we finish this important maintenance work to keep Waldo’s water system running smoothly!

Community & Service:

I was inspired to serve on the Village Board by my father, who set an example of service and dedication to the community. What I enjoy most about serving the Village of Waldo is the people and the local businesses. I love seeing the Village grow and would like to see even more businesses become part of our community. One project I’m most proud of is the dam and seeing it remain a lasting part of Waldo’s history.

My favorite Village events are the Waldo Fire Department Brat Fry and the Lions events, which bring everyone together. My favorite spot in the Village is the Norbert E. Hintz Memorial Park, a special place that honors family, history, and community all in one.

Onion River Dam Drawdown Approved

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has approved a temporary drawdown of the Onion River (Waldo) Dam. This means the Waldo Mill Pond will be lowered by about six feet to allow for needed maintenance, including tree removal around the pond.

Key Points:

* The drawdown will begin this fall and must be completed by October 15, 2025.

* The pond will remain lowered through the winter and early spring. Water levels will not be refilled until after April 15, 2026.

* The water will be lowered and refilled gradually to protect the river and surrounding habitat.

What This Means for Residents:

* Because the pond will be almost completely lowered, activities such as fishing, skating, and snowmobiling will not be possible this winter.

* The Onion River will continue to flow through the pond area, but it will appear much smaller than usual.

* The drawdown is necessary to complete maintenance that helps preserve the long-term health and safety of the pond and dam.

The official DNR approval letter is attached for those who would like more details.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation while this important work is completed.
