Wow, Saturday's No Kings III protest saw 30 at the Park & Ride! We had a cat, a panda, a brain, and Elmo. Thanks to all who came out to demonstrate against the new war in the Middle East, the use of our taxes to give benefits to billionaires, and the general lawlessness of this regime.

Today is our monthly meeting --6PM social, 6:30PM business meeting, 251 Jefferson St., Bug Tussle Annex (3rd floor). I'll bring copies of the agenda and treats.

President Obama summed up my feelings in his speech at Jesse Jackson's memorial: “Every day you wake up to things you just didn’t think were possible. ...Wherever we have a chance to make an impact, whether it’s in our school or our workplaces or our neighborhoods or our cities, [we do it] not for fame, not for glory, or because success is guaranteed, but because it gives our life purpose…because if we don’t step up, no one else will.”

And that's what we have to do. As Anne Lamott wrote, "Right foot, left foot, right foot, breathe." It's a matter of showing up, and I thank all of you who do!

Speaking of showing up -- Here's to Paula and the six other hearty souls who appeared at the Park & Ride on Saturday from noon - 1PM. She said the response from passers by was enthusiastically positive. I'm sorry I couldn't be there and so appreciate all of you who made it! Next event is Saturday March 14, noon - 1PM at the Park & Ride, Rt 1 and West Main St.

And how to keep up the pressure:

1. Call our reps! Use www.5calls.org to make it easy! Their contact info is below. Let them know we are completely opposed to the war in Iran and to Markwayne Mullin as head of DHS. As of March 6, CNN quoted a DC think tank's estimate that the war was costing $891.4 million per day. What could we do in Maine with almost $1 billion per day (or even 1/50 of that?) ? Think about it!!

2. Support our communities!
The Lions Club's Chowder & Chili Lunch on Saturday, was a great success and raised more than $4,000!!
Support threatened Mainers! Immigrants, even U.S. citizens, are wary of resuming their routines despite the supposed reduction of the ICE surge. Donate to food pantries, the ACLU of Maine, MaineNeeds (for all low-income people), or immigrant-specific groups such as Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project or Project Relief Maine to support folks who are hurting under the strategies of this cruel administration.

3. Stay connected: Welcome the Lincoln County Dems to town! You may not know that the bottom floor of 251 Jefferson St. has been rented to the LCDC. On Thursday, March 26 at 6PM - 7:30PM, they will have a meeting and potluck for any Democrats in the county to meet one another and learn about volunteer opportunities. I'd love for a bunch of Waldoboro folks to show up to welcome the team!

4. Show your pride! Buy a t-shirt!
At our meeting, we'll take orders for the Waldoboro Democrats' t-shirts (short-sleeved, printed by a Maine firm on US-made shirts.) The order will be placed tomorrow. $15 each, eco-friendly manufacture.

Here's our Weekly newsletter!

1. Tonight is our Monthly Meeting - 251 Jefferson St., 3rd floor, 6PM social hour; 6:30 business. Stop by early because folks will be gathering signatures for various candidates. The agenda for tonight and minutes from the last meeting will be distributed there. We will be adjusting the bylaws to allow for remote meetings and we'll be electing officers, so don't miss it! Ann L will bring treats.

2. The Lincoln County Caucus meets on Saturday, Feb. 28, 10am - 12pm, at Medomak Valley High School. Heather Cox Richardson will speak (via Zoom from DC, where she's been invited to speak to the House Democrats, but she'll speak directly to us.)
(This meeting is a chance to be part of shaping the future and our role in it, not just reacting, so PLEASE plan to come!)

3. Keep supporting our communities!

4. Keep protesting! Six people were at the Park & Ride in Saturday's storm! Thank you Paula, who organizes this. This is NOT OK!

5. And keep calling our representatives! Use 5calls.org to make it easy! Protest the efforts to "nationalize elections", to restrict voting (just after we found against One in Maine, we have to do it again!), to plunder our national parks and wilderness areas, and to fund ICE.

6. Keep Informed! Read Democracy Now, and the Lincoln County Democrats' newsletter! Don't just doom-scroll - do something! (think of running for a position!)

Thanks for reading this -- and see you tonight at the meeting.
Have a good democratic week, out of spite if you need to.

Here are the phone numbers for our elected representatives!

We shared a flyer for an economic blackout on 2/28 that a member asked us to share. It has been all over online, but this image used a name that should not have been attached. We regret the error.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our Day of Service project! We collected items to split between the Waldoboro Food Pantry and the Waldoboro Free Clothing Closet -- two completely volunteer-run programs in town that serve a vital role in our community. Our rough count is 6 boxes (2 large, 2 medium, 2 small) and 15 bags of items.

At the Waldoboro Free Clothing Closet, we delivered bags of feminine hygiene products, moisturizer, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, lip balm, lots of socks, and some warm clothing.

At the Waldoboro Food Pantry, we dropped off items we got in larger quantities, including plenty of toilet paper, over 300 toothbrushes, dozens of tubes of toothpaste, bar soap, and shampoo.

Thank you to Lynn Bachelder at The Perch and Alexa Stark at The Waldoboro Inn for hosting donation boxes over the weekend. Thank you to Seth Hall for allowing us to use BugTussle Annex to collect more donations today and to sort.

Thank you to volunteers this weekend who dropped off boxes, picked up donations, sorted, and delivered.
