Phoenix Solar Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Phoenix Solar AG, has signed a contract with Silicon Ranch Corp. to build the 38.6 MW Simon Solar Farm in Georgia. According to the companies, the installation will become the state's largest solar project upon completion.

Under the terms of the contract, Phoenix Solar Inc. will provide all engineering, procurement and construction services to Silicon Ranch. The ground-mounted project will feature JA Solar modules, SMA inverters and Unirac mounting systems. Phoenix Solar will also provide long-term operations and maintenance support.

Site work has already begun at Simon Solar Farm, and the project is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. Atlanta-based utility Georgia Power will buy the project’s output under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Silicon Ranch.

Texas A&M University-Central Texas (A&M-Central Texas) has established the Center for Solar Energy to evaluate, develop and test practical and emergent technologies relating to renewable energy and photovoltaic solar technologies. The college is developing the project with California-based PPA Partners, a solar energy company.

A&M-Central Texas says that when completed, the nearly $600 million center will cover up to 800 acres in Bell County and house a power generation system that will supply its campus.

Home furnishings retailer IKEA has completed a solar energy system at its store in College Park, Md. The 148,200 square-foot PV array consists of a 1,196 kW system built with 4,984 panels. The International Trade Commission (ITC) has made a preliminary determination in its anti-dumping and countervailing-duty investigation into Chinese solar cell and module trade practices, having voted 6-0 this morning that there is a "reasonable indication" that those practices are detrimental to the domestic solar industry.

Inter Solar N.A. 2011. As usual this expos/conferences bring a lot of information. Main highlights were the addition of more mini inverters to compete with enphase, very large chinese PV firms competing for the american pv market and more thin film panel exposure. A couple of large companies showed their 400 watt panels, pretty large, not more efficient.
