We want to hear from our community as we work to develop a school calendar that meets the needs of our students, works for our families and staff, and fulfills all requirements of the State of South Carolina. Please take a few minutes to share your feedback through the survey below. Your input will help us develop a calendar recommendation that best serves our community. Following the survey, we plan to draft calendar options and present a recommendation to the Board of Trustees for consideration as early as the next Board meeting.

This week, SDOC middle school math teacher representatives utilized a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to dive into the South Carolina Department of Education’s Dipping into Probability and Statistics session hosted at the Hamilton Career and Technology Center.

Teachers explored engaging ways to strengthen mathematical thinking through hands-on activities and probability simulations. They are excited to share new tools and strategies with their peers to create outstanding learning experiences for students, practicing problem solving, making predictions, analyzing results, and metacognition.

Thank you to the South Carolina Department of Education for coming to SDOC and providing this learning opportunity for our teachers!

Great learning is happening across our SDOC classrooms!

This week, the elementary instructional team had the opportunity to visit several schools and see students learning in action! At Ravenel, 4th graders applied their learning about energy by building and testing ramps. At Orchard Park Elementary, 4th and 5th graders were engaged in math small-groups and independent practice. At Walhalla Elementary, 2nd graders strengthened their skills through guided math games and structured literacy instruction.

We are thankful for our teachers and the meaningful learning opportunities they create for students everyday. We look forward to stepping into more classrooms next week and continuing to fulfill our Promise of Excellence across district classrooms!

Due to an ongoing water issue, there will be no school today at Walhalla High School.

The district has been working with City of Walhalla officials since the early morning hours to address the issue. However, at this time, restoration is expected to extend too far into the school day for students to safely be in the building.

Transportation: Students who have not yet been picked up by a bus should not get on the bus. Any students who are already on a bus will be returned home shortly.

WHS HCTC Students: If you have transportation, you may attend your scheduled HCTC classes. If you do not attend today, your absence will not be counted against you. The time missed will be made up through an eLearning day at a later date.

As of now, afternoon and evening activities will continue as scheduled.

We will continue to monitor the situation and send updates as needed. We sincerely appreciate the City of Walhalla’s efforts to address and correct the issue, as well as the patience and understanding of our parents, students, and community as the situation is resolved. Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation.

SDOC Staff should refer to emails from school leadership about plans for the day

If you're driving by Seneca High School today, you'll notice a significant law enforcement presence on campus. Seneca High is hosting a statewide law enforcement training, bringing officers from agencies across South Carolina together for this planned event. This increased law enforcement presence is expected, and there is no emergency or safety concern at the school. Thank you for your understanding as we support this important training opportunity.
