šŸŽ‰CONGRATULATIONS are in order to Mary Lou Halapy, proud patron of the Friendsville Library, for being the first (yes, first-ever!) to earn the coveted Gold Reader Classics pin. That’s right, Mary Lou has read 50 of the titles included in our Classics Buttons program - meaning she’s reached every Classics milestone possible! We are so proud of you and so delighted to be your Library, Mary Lou, and we really really can’t wait to serve you in our *new* Friendsville Library!

For those of you who don’t know, our Classics Buttons program is simple - read a classic title included in the list, get a button with the book cover on it (they are super cool šŸ˜Ž). There are three special milestones: 10 classics read, you receive a handmade banner on which to display your literary b***y; 25 classics read, receive the Silver Reader pin; and 50 classics read, join the likes of Ms. Mary Lou Halapy in the ranks of Gold Readers!

To learn more about Classics Buttons, and to view the list of included titles, please visit www.relib.net/events-programs/classics-buttons or stop into your fave library location.

Are we missing an important favorite? We’re always adding expansion sets so submit your suggestion(s) to [email protected].

Pssst…Here’s a fun fact - our Classics Buttons program earned last year’s Maryland Library Association Project of the Year Award! Not to toot our own horn or anything, but we’re here for it šŸ˜‰.

Offering what the New York Times calls ā€œa garden of cinematic delights,ā€ Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award winning documentaries, rare and hard to find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema.

Library cardholders get 30 tickets per month. Each movie title is labeled with a ticket value and viewing window, so you can clearly see how many tickets a movie will "cost" and how long it will be available to watch. Whew, it's been a very busy couple of weeks here at the Library, but we think we're back on track! In weather news (a universally temperate topic), it's a hot one out there, so we hope you're staying nice and cool. The Library is quite pleasant, thank you for asking! But enough of that small talk! You're here to tell us, and we want to know, what are YOU reading/listening to this Friday?!

Did you know that today is World Environment Day? We've done a bit of looking and have found a short but sweet TBR-inspiring Reading List from The Booker Prizes - "Eight Booker Prize-nominated books for World Environment Day." Let us know what you think - how do they fit the theme of World Environment Day (do they fit it well?) - and have you read/want to read any of them?
