West Side Project Construction Activity Summary

9/4/2026 Completed & In-Progress Work:

7th Street and Elm Avenue:
- The first level of pavement has been completed. The second layer will occur later this year.
- The contractor will be working on areas behind the curb to finalize clean up efforts.
- Paving of driveway entrances will occur soon. Contractor is circling back with sub-contractor for an exact date.
- Hydo-seeding for grass has been completed. The new turf will require your assistance to ensure proper long-term growth. The Contractor will assist in watering initially, but ultimately it will be the responsibility of the property owner. Once the grass reaches a growth height of about 3-4 inches, please mow the newly established areas. Your assistance with re-establishing turf is greatly appreciated.

Lake May Drive & Road:
- Street grading work on the Lake May Drive & Road segment is complete. Concrete curb and gutter installation will take place on September 3 - 4. Please make sure your vehicle is out of your driveway prior to the placement of the concrete curbing. If your vehicle is in your driveway following placement of the concrete, it may be “trapped” for several days before you are able to move it out over the curbing. A good indication that concrete curbing is soon to be placed is when the contractor starts placing large metal stakes along the edge of the roadway to hold the stringline in place. Placement of concrete driveway entrances will happen in the next couple of weeks.

Garden Street:
- Grading work is completed on the segment of Garden Street from Walker Bay Blvd to Hwy 371. Concrete curb installation will take place on September 3 - 4. 🚗 IMPORTANT: MOVE YOUR VEHICLE BEFORE CURB INSTALLATION

Please make sure any vehicles are moved out of your driveway BEFORE concrete curbing is placed along your property.
Once the concrete curb has been installed, your driveway may be temporarily inaccessible. If your vehicle is left in your driveway when the concrete curb is placed, it may be “trapped” in the driveway for about a week until the concrete has sufficiently cured and you are able to drive over the new curbing.

How Will I Know Curb Installation Is Coming?

A good indication that concrete curbing is about to be installed is when the contractor begins placing large metal stakes along the edge of the roadway. These stakes are used to hold the stringline that guides the placement of the new curb.

If you see the large metal stakes being placed near your property, please plan to have your vehicle out of your driveway.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as the City continues work on the West Side Project. Construction schedules are subject to change based on weather and site conditions.

UPDATE: The last weekly construction meeting occurred this week on Thursday, August 27th. We will continue to publish weekly construction updates. Please call City Hall or contactors listed below with questions or concerns related to the project.

- Road Closure signs are posted in the area. Contact the Contractor Superintendent if you have specific questions.

Garden Street:

- The first layer of street pavement should begin in mid-September.

CASS COUNTY, MN – SCAM CALLS ON-GOING – PREVENT YOURSELF FROM BEING A VICTIM

Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports recently in the past days the Cass County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of fraud and scam phone calls and text messages in which the scammer has posed as a member of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The newest version, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam involving its jail, and when people are added to the jail roster.

The scam is described as parents or family members being notified once someone new is added to the Cass County Jail roster, which appears online on the official Cass County, MN website. The scammer asks the family members for money, and once the family checks the jail roster, it shows the individual is indeed newly in jail.

The sheriff’s office stressed that law enforcement will never ask for bail to be posted with PayPal, phone cards, Amazon gift cards, iTunes cards or other gift cards, noting that these are common methods scammers will use in an attempt to acquire money from victims. In one recently reported incident $1800 was transferred to a fraudster under the impression that the victim was providing bail money on a legitimate family member in custody.

If you receive this type of call or scam, protect yourself by hanging up immediately and never providing personal or financial information over the phone; instead, independently verify the information by calling the official Sheriff's Office at a number you find from their official website. Legitimate law enforcement agencies will never demand immediate payment over the phone for fines, missed court dates or to clear warrants.

Common tactics used by scammers that have been reported recently include:

• Caller ID Spoofing: The phone number may appear to be from the local Sheriff's Office or a specific deputy's name, but this is fake.
• Sense of Urgency: Scammers create panic by claiming there is an outstanding warrant for your arrest, and you must pay a fine immediately to avoid jail time.
• Demands for Payment: They will demand payment through specific, untraceable methods, such as gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.
• Threats: They may threaten to come to your home if you do not pay immediately.
What to do if you receive a call like this
• Hang up immediately: Do not provide any information, and do not stay on the line to argue or question the caller.
• Do not call back the number from the call: Scammers may be spoofing the number and you will not reach a legitimate agency.
• Call the official Sheriff's Office directly: Look up the phone number for your local Sheriff's Office on their official website, or a trusted directory, and call them to verify the claim.
• Do not share personal or financial information: This includes your Social Security number, bank account information, or payment details.
• Report the scam: You can report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and visit identitytheft.gov if you have already shared personal information.

We understand that this information can be confusing and at times hard to understand a legitimate call or a fraudster attempting to gain payment or personal information.
